Re: camping
I second the Lake Catherine suggestion! If you can plan to get to Rockport early enough in the day, I'd go straight to LCSP and try to get a spot, from there you'll be set to play as you wish at The Ledge then be conveniently located to dine in Hot Springs, camp at the lake, and play more on the river the next day.
At this point, it may be a moot suggestion though as the holiday weekend is upon us and probably most every camping ground full, it's still worth a try. When we stay at Lake Catherine S.P. for the Rendezvous each year, past experience has dictated a month or more's reservation notice to secure an RV spot, I'm sure tent spots could be less in demand and perhaps more readily available.
If all else fails, I think you can stay in your vehicle in the back side of the Malvern Wal-Mart parking lot along with the truckers. Crashing in your vehicle at the Whitewater Park may lead to a rude awakening by the Malvern Police patrols. If all else untenable, Lake Degray at Arkadelphia or some of the private campgrounds in Hot Springs could be an option.

Camping permits at Rockport Ledge
I think you can still camp at Rockport.

We are all afflicted with Cognitive Dissonance. The greater our religious, social, financial or political affiliation, the greater the affliction. We hear what we want to hear. We believe what we want to believe. Truth becomes irrelevant.

Re: camping
Richard,
This camping question at the Ledge comes up fairly often, if you should ever care to visit with your contact and give us more details, Id certainly bookmark it for future reference. Some of the questions I would have would be:
1.Would a person need to report to city hall in Malvern only during 8-5 daily business hours M-F to secure a permit? No late arrivals or 'after hours'? Where is the office located (driving directions for 'out-of-towners'), and are there any other city personnel on duty besides this one code enforcement officer with the authority to issue permits in his absence?
2. Where would campers be allowed to spread a tent, or are they restricted to sleeping in their vehicles, and would it be permissible to park in other areas than the small parking lot to secure a little more privacy? Are Camper and Trailer type recreational vehicles allowed?
3, What is the cost per night, and what times of the daily period is the permit in effect?
4. How is the permit to be displayed to ensure compliance so the patrolling officers can see it and not unnecessarily bother the occupants?
5. How many vehicles or tents allowed on one permit?
6. Are the restroom facilities open at all times?
7. Are there quite hours to be observed?
8. What other regulations would apply?
These would be a few of the questions I would have and, to date, really haven't been able to offer answers to for those asking. Thank you for your suggestion and I know those wanting to camp here in the future would surely benefit from more readily available information.
Best Regards
Jim
