2009 Surf N Turf!! Saturday July 25

The Central Chapter will once again sponsor the Annual "Surf N Turf on the Ouachita River at Rockport, Saturday July 25. The agenda is as follows..........

1. Show up around 12:00ish
2. Eat some burgers and dogs courtesy of the Central Chapter of the ACC
3. Drink a beverage or two of your choosing and then surf in the waves with a few hundred of your closest friends......or visa versa :)

The "official" sponsored ACC stuff is simply the cookout. There are no "official" ACC events on the river or elsewhere. There however may be unofficial downriver trips, friendly playboat competitions and perhaps other assorted mayhem and merriment.

The burger's will be burning on the river right (south) side of the river opposite of the Rockport Whitewater Park. I think we typically try to start serving around 1:00 PM. Coming from the north on I-30, cross the Ouachita River near Malvern and take the next exit. Follow the signs toward Lake Catherine State Park. Go about 1/2 mile and watch for the ACC Banner on the right at the old Porterfield property. The gate will be open but please close it behind you.

I am still looking for some stuff to make this event a success........
- One or two big shop fans. The cooks really appreciate it!
- Outdoor sound system for the north (WW park) side of the river. I want to have some music playing with big powerful speakers near the river. A public address system would be a plus as would a person willing to man it. This I think will require a generator to power it.
- Volunteers to bring condiments, desserts.
- Volunteers to coordinate food setup, and serving
- Clean up assistance prior to and after the event

I'm planning on attending and can bring the PA and generator for the WW Park area. Can facilitate CD's or MP3's, etc as long as they have the small headphone jacks. Will also be able to have a microphone for a rodeo competition if someone wants to MC.

Will need to be able to park close to the upstream steps so I can load and unload relatively easily.

Looking forward to being able to participate and seeing everyone.

Question Dave...do you think that sound system would work for the film festival at the party? Assuming you make it to the party? f

You bet. We have used it at Rendezvous for the film festivals. You can input audio from about any source including a computer. Plus you can use the mic to MC the event as well.

Hey Ted. Yes you were on my "to do" list. Would hate for this to be first event we just called "turf". Any idea how many hours we can expect??

As a minimum I will provide 6 hours. Hopefully, we won't be hurting for water and we can do 8 hours or so. I would say, that you need to decide that if you only have 6 hours, when do you want them? It takes 2-1/2 hours for the water to arrive and it is pretty full in 3 hours. So you can have it come up, everyone plays for a couple hours, then eat and play for a couple hours more. Or you can time it to serve just as the water arrives and play all afternoon.

I'd love to see the water get turned on about 10:00 AM so that anyone wanting to do a downriver trip could get on and get to Rockport in time to eat. Thanks buddy!!
