Interesting indeed. I noticed their was no mention of Marshal's previous desire to dam Bear creek for water. The COE suggested years ago that it would be cheaper in the long run to pipe water from Greers Ferry lake. The city's leaders were adamant about having their own source. I believe the COE turned down their application for the Bear creek dam. Hooraa!

I don't remember all of the details, but, I believe the ACC was party to some legal action that may have played some small part in the decision.

This was the only time we have ever gone so far and only did it because Bear Creek is a tributary to the Buffalo and we felt like if you are going to protect the Buffalo you have to protect the tribs.

I remember that lawsuit very well! It was on my watch as ACC Prez and it was the first and hopefully the last time I was in Federal Court!! We won though. I still get nervous when I get near Marshall.

Well how a bout that. I had no idea about all of that. I was just glad to see that our water rich state has somehow figured out how to take water from an existing source in a nother state. How many times out of 10 will that happen again ? not many I would guess.

"water from another state" ? Huh? That part of Bull Shoals is in Arkansas. I grew up at Lead Hill, and though geographically challenged at times, I'm pretty sure we were citizens of Arkansas.

The map shows the intake to be downstream from the Tucker Hollow rec area.

With all those hills, that's got to require a lot of pumping and pipe laying. But I like that solution better than another dam.

Well, I feel sorry for ya growin' up in lead hill and all.... I also feel sorry for one a my pals that grew up in Bruno over there in marion county.... Since I tell him that all of the time, I figured I'd tell you too since lead hill ain't far away. :poke: Also, since I'm doggin' those from marion county I can't leave jermdog outta this either.

Now, "Water From Another State" Is water from Bull shoals. Yes, the most part of Bull shoals is in arkansas, but a good amount is in good ole Mizzou too.

Here's the trick,

Since water that is allocated is talked about in depths (across the lake) that water is just as much the water of missouri is it is arkansas. Well actually,, I guess it is the COE primarily, then the states. Don't mess with the Corp by god.

But anyway,... thanks for keeping me straight and honest and non-inflammatory with my rhetoric there. I need all the help I can get in that category.

I wonder what the reported negative health impacts are from the 4 county area in which radium levels were high?

Shoot. I'd like to buy up some of that land and start a "Hot Springs of the Ozarks". Heck, we don't need hot springs with radium. We could just heat well water up on a stove and pour it into a bath to achieve the "healing" effects of radium in bathing water.

Thanks for the EPA link. I look at that a lot, well often enough. It is amazing to me what is on there and scary what is not. The EPA sure does have a lot of good info, albeit is sort of like a maze to navigate their site.

Anyway, I was wondering if there was an increased incidence of cancer among well water drinkers per say as related to radium in the 4 county area affected by elevated radium in the well water ?

or

Was this just a random discovery as part of routine analysis or safety check/protocol conducted by state agencies ? which means it must be dealt with after it is identified as a health risk or something like that ?

or

Was this the result of a strategic response by state agencies in response to "health complaints/concerns" of those affected by well water use ?

or none of the above ?

I ask this because it just seems likely or possible that more issues with private drinking water sources will or can arise in the future which will or may lead to an increased need for more or bigger lakes when and if well water use must be abandoned and there is no other easy solution available.

Thanks for any additional info or pointing me to the source mentioned in the article. I am fascinated with the topic.
