Re: West Fork Cleanup June 13th
Hey! Cargill(the company I work for) is interested in participating in the cleanup. Can you send me some contact info, etc for them?
Re: West Fork Cleanup June 13th
Thanks for the interest and volunteer hook-up Steph !
I just got a report that 1 ACC and another folk went down on an early bird trash pick up from Hwy 71 to Tilly Willy and they picked up approximately 120 lbs of trash.
They told me that it took them 3 hours to do 4 miles and it was a drag fest !
They collected 1.5 gallons of broken glass (wow thats alot !), 2 tires (they said 6 more were still out there), a handy 6 gallon water container (yum i want that !), one flash flooded tent (missing the poles), and some other good river trash totalling a whopping 220 lbs of trash.
Two other teams have claimed and early bird trash pick up from Woolsey Bridge to Riverside Park and Riverside Park to hwy 71.
Well, that makes one river section covered and 4 to go, with 2 claimed and 2 that are still up for the taking.... hopefully there will be some more rain so the other river clean up teams won't have to drag so much. We'll see how that goes.

Re: West Fork Cleanup June 13th
Landowners in Winslow from Sunset Mtn Rd to Brentwood have been mailed letters to join the clean up. This takes care of the need to float that section from Winslow to Brentwood.
71 to Tilly Willy has been Cleaned. Riverside Park to Dye Creek has been claimed.
If it rains good this week and brings up the West Fork I plan on cleaning from Brentwood to Woolsey Bridge with some folks. That will leave from Woolsey Bridge to Riverside Park and all of the River Reaches will have been covered by boaters. Sweet ! Thanks ACC for your help in this event.

Re: West Fork Cleanup June 13th
I am glad that there will be less dragging involved in tomorrows clean up since the west fork has come up in response to this weeks brief rainfall events.
I bet that todays rain will bump it up even more. I am looking forward to participating in tomorrows event !

Re: West Fork Cleanup June 13th
wow you all  i just dragged a canoe with a crazy german guy 4 miles from winslow to brentwood bridge.... therfore I am also crazy by default.
The lowest run ever 4 ft !!!! My back is sore but we got a lot of trash and I will be danged because there is an awesome surfing stretch just waiting to happen when the next big rain comes.
a stream restoration has added about 4 ledges that have pools beneath them that are deeper than any other surfing spot for that whole run !!
It just made that run much better I cant wait for 7-8 feet or more and an afternoon run down that.
I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow

Re: West Fork Cleanup June 13th
The west fork cleanup and watershed celebration went really well this year, and could not have been effectively accomplished without the ACC, Ozark Society, or Boaters in general.
It was nice to meet some members that I have not yet met, and to see a lot of familiar faces !
Thanks to all 25 or so ACC folk, 10 or so Ozark Society, and other boaters who came out to show some creek love for the west fork !
Way to set a good role model and lead by example !
There were approximately 100 folk who participated. 60 or so in the cleanup and 40 in the celebration.
I'll bet 2.5 tons of trash or more were collected in all, but will not recieve a final amount until it is actually weighed.
Oh yeah, did I mention that I can't wait to hit the west fork from winslow down to brentwood the next time the river hits 8 or so ? Those 4 or 5 new ledges from the stream restoration will be awesome play spots with deep pools....what a change !

Nice job! Sorry I could not make it. I had a little out patient surgery on my leg last Wednesday, and I'm still not getting around too well.
Can't wait to hear the final totals on the clean up!

As it turns out, the ACC, Boaters, and the Ozark Society..... were mostly responsible for recovering a ton and some change from the West Fork. 2,040 lbs of diapers, tires, and old steel amongst other river booty.
Way to go ya'll ! that is the equivalent of a VW Bug, a Rhino, or 2, 666.666 cold 12oz'ers
