Just got home to my paper. Looks like low but floatable in the Carver area. My info says 3.8 - 4.7 is "low but" and up to 6.6 is "ample" at Pruitt. It is 4.5 right now. Hopefully the Little Buff from Jasper is putting in water.

This should be good for day trip but might be low for loaded boats w/camp gear?? Any input here?

Mt Hersey is small, or was when I was last there. I would think it would be better to meet at Carver and bring down a couple of autos. Only 7ish miles, would 11 be a good meet time?

and .. camping may not work for me. Need to make a meeting about church camp on Sunday.

I must have some dated info or some gauges have changed. I know Pruitt is relatively new or has been redone.

1100 hours at Carver, then! Guess I can just throwdown there, wrap crime scene tape around the put-in, and see you guys there!

I'll be in a red Toyota Tacoma with a red Bell canoe on top. MO License plate: Gut-It.

Could any of you guys please shoot me some updated Floating levels info?

Gutit, yes the gauges have changed some. Pruitt is at 4.49 right know and still rising slowly. I'd guess it'll plateau tonight without anymore upstream rainfall. I did Pruitt to Mt. Hersey @ 4.6 in a loaded solo boat and did not drag, so day floating Carver to Mt. Hersey should be no hassle.

Carver is not a big campground, only like 8 spots or so. Someone with more experience there might chime in on whether we'll be able to swing it there.

Should we consider starting the shuttle more like 1000 hours from Carver and be on the river by 1130? Just a thought.

Respiratory Man, looking forward to seeing that new boat at last!

We'll be in a red Chevy S10 with a red Bell Alaskan on top. We're also caravaning down with a new friend who may or may not bring her own boat sort of depending on available seats already planned.

Doug(KC)

PS. Yes, Mt. Hersey is small and will probably have lots of vehicles already. Shouldn't restrict us from parking most of our take-out vehicles though. Might have to walk up the road a tad. Not great camping IMO.

Ryan called me this afternoon to find out whats up with this trip? seems we have a few folks that are stuck in the" sign in to the board phase" but would like to join in on this! .... so please give a final word statement.. if you would be so kind!.. water levels are going up but you won't see any of that down stream! until mid day, plus it sounds like all the outfitters will be putting on up stream anyways... that's 400 canoes you won't see

I've talked to one of the folks in the "sign in phase" and she's caravanning down from KC with my son and I. Our Plan "A" is to camp at Carver Friday night and meet everyone at the Carver put in Saturday morning and do the shuttle. I'm also looking at Plan "B" campgrounds, still with the idea of meeting at Carver put in. Personally, I'd like to start the shuttle at 1000 hours rather than 1100, but will go with the flow of course.

Doug(KC)

PS, I've left a message and emailed Eric regarding the Kansas City area participant. If there's an open seat in a boat, I think she'd appreciate that, although she can bring a boat as well. Not sure who Ryan is on the board, so I wasn't able to PM him with this info.

Ryan Center is our new NW chapter President. Thanks for following up on that for us. Ryan can't go this weekend as he has a family reunion to go to, otherwise he'd probably go with you.

Maybe see you on the river. If you do, we will share some sugar cookies. Just got through baking 12 dozen and maybe 5-10 dozen will make it to the river after Susan amd James get home.

whatever... I can be there earlier. What is the majority opinion??

Pruitt should be the only gauge with major changes. From a sheet the rangers gave me..

below 3.8 very low
to 4.7 Low but floatable
to 6.6 ample
to 8.0 experienced
over 8 flood

Clif, sir?

I don’t mean to over step my bounds. I am a guest on your run and have every intention to try to be a good one.

But here is what I would do at this point.

The Run is from Carver to Mt. Hershey. By my map this is 6.8 miles. We should have decent water. The shuttle is not the best so everyone try to shoot for 0930 Saturday. That should give us all time to get lost a couple of time and make it by 1000 hrs. I have no idea who is coming and doing what, but by the time we all get together, meet, d*ck around, yuk it up on the bank, unload, and decide how we are going to shuttle, we will be lucky to be on the shuttle by 1100. Perfect! It stays light late now and that will give our day-trippers time to either d*ck around as much as they want or get on out if they need to. For the nighters, that will give a sweet day and still camp early so we can enjoy each other’s company before dark. And not too far to paddle out Sunday, and lots more of DA.

My schedule has changed and I am looking at getting to Carver earlier Fri. to hang out. I’ll wrap additional crime scene tape to try to hold some space for those coming down then. We could camp anywhere. It’s a National River. So if it looks bad, the Fri campers could meet there and move on if necessa.

Eric? Janetlee has just completed a huge wad of her World Class Secret Recipe Cookies and is sending them with me! She has already handcuffed the cookie jar to my wrist for transport. I cannot access them until I see Clif’s Boaters! (Rats!) She is the only one I know who could give you a run for your $$, Brother! I can’t wait for you two to meet! We’ll all die happily of cookie poisoning!

Again, I apologize Clif if I have stepped out of line. I’ll be down there and will meet you guys wherever and whenever you want

I like the 0930 even better. We'll be there. We may also push our Friday arrival up in order to help secure camping.

Doug(KC)

Terry,
Sent you a PM.

Some are coming from the Little Rock area which is quite a drive also. We should have plenty of daylight. I would rather hear from them before we move shuttle time too early. Early is better, tho. Sharky? legalpad?

My contacts are posted a few posts back. Send me a message if we need to wait for you. An 'after the run' shuttle will work also. As of now, still 11 but please no later and move it earlier if you can.

Doug,Terry and others ,
Once again, when I plan something comes up.
Enjoy your weekend and I'll be thinking of the current which will carry you downstream and wishing I was there.
Someday I'll make one of these journeys with ya'll. :(

Paddlegal and HockeyDan will be there. We are anxious to see Sharkattack and Painterbob who I paddle with and have not seen in a long, :poke: long time.

HDan and I are leaving Little Rock at 6:00 a.m. It generally takes me 2.75 hours to get to tyler bend soooooooooooo........we would like to meet you at Carver at 10:00.

its only a 6.8 mile trip and it stays light until 8:30 in the evening.

I don't feel like we need to hurry up so much to have some slow floating fun in the sun. As it is, I'll have to get up before the roosters, but I will confer to the general consensus. A 7 mile trip should not take us more than 5 or 6 hours, dont' you think?

Let me know what time I should be at Carver or I could meet you at Mt Hershey and someone could haul my boat to Carver.

Now lets hear from Sharkattack........

If we're using the access road to Mt. Hersey off of hwy 123, that is an easy shuttle, I see no need to meet earlier than 11a for a 7 mile float. JMO. Paddlegal & friend are coming up from England, and that is a bugger of a drive.

That was part of my reasoning as well, Wes. Tried to call you earlier. I will bring my truck and can bring a bunch of boats and 4 other people back to Carver afterwards if we need to. Would like to be on the river by noon so as long as the 11 does not turn into 11:30 or more we ok. Did not want to rush anyone coming long distances tho.

Sent you an email Connie.

11 will be the official time. Any so inclined can do a shuttle before. Level still not dropping...woo hoo
