We thought of you many times along the way, brother man. And said a prayer or two that your recovery is quick and good. The rains the day before made for an interesting effect as Richland was big and muddy running into a clear river. Then Calf creek, I think it is, just above Tyler Bend was doing the same thing. Rained on us most of the way there, then the sun and dry air broke out just as we hit the river. Pam did well stopping often for "radiator" breaks to cool us down. First time on this section for A-rod's and my bunch till Baker Ford. Then we had many many sightings of rentals below there.
in short..we missed ya bud!

Thank you Clif and all for your kind thoughts and prayers. So far, last night and this morning have been my best since getting out of the hospital. There is hope again.
The Buffalo is never the same River or the same experience no matter how many times you float it.
=============
Clif, you probably already know all this but just in case, on the Gilbert to Maumee run, you can shuttle on the north side Gilbert to North Maumee. It is much shorter but the potential for getting lost is greater and its dusty.
Depending on what time you get on the river, Brush Creek is a nice, cool place to stop for lunch. It is on river right just upriver from the bridge piers. A cane brake rattlesnake paid a visit while we were having lunch there one time. It acted like we were not even there. We on the other hand were very polite and got up to allow the honored guest to pass by.
My pick for camping is just below Tomahawk Bluff. It's closer to the take out than Red Bluff. depending on whether a pool on the down river end of the gravel bar becomes stagnent, you may experience some mosquitoes.
Whether it is Red Bluff or Tomahawk, the best part of the gravel bar for camping is the downriver end. Shade arrives sooner and you can hear the river as it goes through a riffle to the next pool. For me the section between Tomahawk and North Maumee is the most uneventful of perhaps any on the river. Things pick up again after leaving N Maumee.

'Splain, "uneventful." If that translates to lots of long pools, perhaps it should be done when there is plenty of current. I was thinking it would be light on traffic for a weekend. That is one of the last sections I have never done.Richard wrote:.... For me the section between Tomahawk and North Maumee is the most uneventful of perhaps any on the river. Thanks to Clif & Co. and Pam for making the Clan Crawford's (a.k.a. AR-Nimrod's Bunch) first overnighter a great time. Pam's knowledge of the river and Clif's boys splash wars with Hannah made the trip what it was supposed to be "family fun time"Clif wrote:Great trip. Thanks to Hannah for "putting up" with my boys. Some great splash wars. Big thanks for the experienced Mo,lady that shared knowledge with us on the first leg. Ready for the next one.

No part of the Buffalo is bad. This, for me at least, is a bit boring. Gravel bars are of the large stone type. Bluffs are not as nice as above and below stream. And it does seem like the pools take longer. If I was to just concentrate on Tomahawk to N Maumee and make an effort to look for the special things, I might surprise myself and find that ii is anything but boring. If I ever recover from this tick bite, I may just do that.

I was going to see if I could get a small trip report on what to expect. Some friends and I are going to do the Woolum to Tyler Bend section next week for the first time. How scenic is this stretch and how much are we going to have to paddle to do 16 miles in two days?
Re: Woolum to Tyler Bend? thurs 6-4 and Fri 6-5. watching levels
Bluffs way interesting. Plenty of current when we went 2 weeks ago. Level close to where it is now. Not far below Woolum was what Pam called Little Niagra. Pay attention and you will be ok. Most shoals had options, so even a bit lower and you shoud be ok without dragging. Pools had current also.
Plenty of big gravel bars for camping. And some very noticeable bluffs... did I say that already.
Anything else specific??? pm me or
