lately been having good luck with the snapdragon expedition type skirts. I had a fit problem with a skirt I purchased from one of their retail stores, called the guys at the factory to see if I could maybe get a discount on another skirt if I did a return as the retail folks were not interested in a swap out. The owners answer the phone. I got the feeling that the two guys that run the company are still active in making the product. No problem was the instant answer I got, I returned the unit that did not fit and they sent me one that did fit perfectly with no charge. The owner even allowed they had made that particular model off a local Mega Rocker and might not have gotten it right. Wow, I was surprised to hear that. Great customer service! Made me even more of a customer when I need another spray skirt.

skirt seem to be well made and the shock cords are extremely tight fitting and so far no leaks on my Jackson Mega rocker.

Mt Surf used to be my brand of choice. But with all the turmoil at the manufacturing plant --- not sure how the new ones are holding up.

my two cents worth of feedback!!!

I just got a new Skirtworks skirt. From what I have heard, this is the same company that was Mountain Surf. The skirt that I got from them is super dry and goes on and off my boat really easy. It also has the grabloop sewn back onto the top of the deck so there is no way that you can tuck it inside your boat. It also will always be in the same place everytime when you go to pull it and eject. I ordered mine from Jeremy at OOO and it was $180 deliverd to my door. That may be a little more than you wanna spend, but if you are gonna boat year round in AR, then a skirt that does not leak, is easy to get on and of, and is super tough, is a great investment in a piece that I see lasting for several seasons. Check it out for yourself.

I like my snapdragon as well. I picked up a river trek one from http://www.jacksonholekayak.com/ a few months back for $70 shipped. I don't know if it was a special or a typo, but it was a great deal.

Price is right, but every Snapdragon owner I've talked to has had issues with water seeping through the material itself after a while. So even if it is less expensive, it isn't as dry as one would hope to expect. Several paddlers around here have the new Skirtworks products and so far have raved about the quality. Plus the fact that the owner was once a Mtn.Surf employee. I'm sure he has the scoop on the same material suppliers that Mtn.Surf used. When I spoke with them a few months back, they were planning on starting to offer shok corded skirts as well.

Good luck on the skirt search, and remember that you usually get just what you pay for.

I think Skirtworks rocks. And yes, they are the same people that used to make skirts for Mountain Surf. I recently bought a Skirtworks skirt for my Jackson Hero. Customer service is supreme. If you are not totally happy with your skirt for any reason they will do whatever it takes to make it right. I really like my skirt. When I first got it, it seemed a little snug to get over my butt. I called them about the sizing and they offered to pay for return shipping to modify it. I decided the fit was fine after all and have been very happy with it.

Hey Eric,

For what it’s worth, I use a Snap Dragon Reinforced skirt on the Hero, it fits snug, but not to snug, and keeps things dry. The material does absorb a little water, but that has not been an issue. I had a Snap Dragon Trek model once, but it seemed rather flimsy and I did not have any long term faith in it……..

I bought a Seals skirt last year, just trying it on in the store, not on my boat. I had heard good things about them. However, when I brought it to the river the next weekend, I felt like it was way too loose around the cockpit of my Jackson Star, and ended up trading it in for a Snapdragon. You might not have the same experience with your boat, but I would definitely try it on your boat before purchase.

Skirtworks, their quality, construction and durability is excellent! I wouldn't look at anything else personally.

Another Snapdragon fan here. I think they use a very flexible neoprene to get a skirt that stretches and goes on easier than some; that is probably a design tradeoff that causes the leakage some are reporting. Since I had that issue with a Mountainsurf skirt, I think it is not unique to any one brand.

On my older snapdragon (now my "pool" skirt) I cut the leakage way down by putting the skirt on the boat, and sealing the seam between the deck and the tunnel with a generous bead of aqua-seal.

I especially like the Snapdragons for my "creek" boating; the bungee rand releases from the cockpit much easier when you have to hop out to scout, especially if you are doing something tricky like climbing out on a mid-stream boulder to help with a boat recovery or something.

All that said, based on the positive reviews, I'll take a close look at the Skirtworks option the next time I go shopping.

Mountain Surf is still around and supposed to be shipping skirts again soon. Skirtworks was started by people that worked for Mountain Surf.

To modify your skirt or butt? Just wondering?
