BUFFALO RIVER - Tick update - Friday - May 29
Re: BUFFALO RIVER overniters
under the weather..indeed. Man.
I know 2 little guys that get all excited when I talk of going to the Buffy with Mr Richard. One has loved his shared interest of the geology.
Sumbody print up this thread and bring it to him also.
Prayers and more my friend.

Re: BUFFALO RIVER overniters
Just got a text message - Richard has been moved to room F809. That is probably a good sign of improvement if he is out of the sub critical care area.

When Roger heard the news about Richard's condition early this a.m. (this thread is a bit oblique!), he agreed that it was high time to head to Little Rock and see for ourselves how Richard is doing. He is indeed doing much better--out of ICU, will most likely get to go home in the next few days, etc., yet he is still not fully the fiesty Richard we've come to know and love. It was reassuring to see him, but he still needs our thoughts and prayers.

Re: BUFFALO RIVER overniters
Gretchen and I are going to see him today. Will post later tonight when we get back. Taking books, camera, catalogs, some flowers from Susan's garden, and an envelope of best wishes from all of us to go with the catalogs.
Yea, Gretchen for volunteering to drive down.

Eric, if you have not left yet, call first to make sure he's not heading back to Conway.

Re: BUFFALO RIVER overniters
We did get down there in time to see Richard for about an hour, before his third daughter Karen came to pick him up. He wanted out of there so badly, he even said Gretchen could pose as Karen and we could smuggle him out. He is in much better shape than we expected, but I expect he will have a few more weeks of recovery. He is not back to being himself yet, but the improvement is there. He was able to stand and walk a few steps, but he is still sort of weak and winded, and his sense of balance was a little shakey. They told him he can do what he feels like doing but he will be on strong antibiotics for another 10 days and nights. He said to thank eveyone for the their kind thoughts, the books, catalogs, and for the "envelope". It will take much research when he is more focused to see where it will go. I gathered that he will be staying with daughter Karen for a few days, and he does not have his cell phone with him, so when he gets it back, I am sure he will be calling some folks.
and again, Thank you Gretchen for driving down there.

Eric, thank you for being point man on the envelope. I'm glad he got paddling visitors two days in a row!

Hang in Richard we still need to do a Buffalo trip with you.
Re: BUFFALO RIVER overniters
This is the first time I've logged on to the ACC web-site since I returned from our San Juan River raft trip - had no ideal Richard has been ill - thank goodness he's on the mend and able to return home. I'll give him, or his family care-giver a phone call tomorrow.

I just got off the phone with Richard - he informed me that the hospital released him at his insistence - he now wishes that he was still there. I ended the conversation because he is so weak and could barely talk.

Thanks for the update, Richard. I just can't imagine that you'd be a less than compliant patient...
Glad you're on the mend.

Saturday was not a good one. I guess there will be setbacks along the road to recovery. I finally had to remind myself that just because I am home does not mean I am well. I still have pneumonia. I still have meningitis. I still hurt all over. I think this disease is going to have control of me for at least a while longer.
I just now read the posts on this thread for the first time. A bit overwhelming. I am very grateful for my membership in the ACC and having the privilege of calling you my friends. I was really looking forward to some new families joining us in May and June. Never imagined I would be out of commission during those months.
DEET! DEET! DEET! DEET!

We are all afflicted with Cognitive Dissonance. The greater our religious, social, financial or political affiliation, the greater the affliction. We hear what we want to hear. We believe what we want to believe. Truth becomes irrelevant.

Welcome back, Richard!
Glad that you are, if not back in the saddle yet, at least back in the barn!
Now quit scaring the crap out of everyone and get to feeling better super soon, man!
We're all on your side, Brother!
(Now where the heck did I put that deet?)
