Cadron gauge (?)

Went to paddle Hogan's Creek today (4.9) reading on the gauge and it was raining pretty good in the area. I know that's on the low side but I've made it down it before at (4.5) and had a good time. Got to the creek and it didn't even look like it would float a boat so we left. Checked the gauge from my phone and got a (4.7) reading so we went to the Cadron and it seemed like (4.7) going down it. At the takeout the wooden gauge read below 4. Back at home now the internet gauge says (4.55). What am I missing here?

The net gauges often do not match the ones on the bridges.

As far as Hogan.. far away and different watershed. Just an indicator that it may be happening. Just north/upstream of hwy 124 a BIG branch of the Cadron comes from the east...Quitman area. The gauge can show a rise from a good rain over that way when we barely get the ground wet or not much runoff. Maybe that is the deal.

Especially in summer, rain may be very concentrated. We've seen several inches of rain in one location, while just a few miles away the roads are still dusty.

The good news would be, it works both ways: there will be times when the Cadron gage says "no go", but if you check Hogan anyway, you just might find it "cranking".

Yo Cowper, do you know how the acess is going at the bridge? I know it's called Something Springs but I forget the name anyway, I know there was some talk about opening the gate so one could drive down to the creek. That's killing my rafting the Cadron at high levels. I miss going to the Cadron at about 7 or 8 ft. I hate that CCO is gone that was to easy really sweat place!! Drop a 5 in the box and launch the boat. Cliff????

Access at Pinnacle Springs bridge at the white gate (river left above the bridge), is cool now from what I hear. The owner would prefer a call for permission, but I don't have his number yet. Just don't block the gate. I also heard the AGFC has purchased land at the next bridge up as well (Hartwick Mill Bridge), but I don't know what side, and that could be better for raft launching. Much less distance to haul it, but longer distance to paddle (about 10 miles to Pinnacle Springs bridge and then 4 more to Hwy 65 bridge.

When I went yesterday I'm pretty sure that "white gate" was purple. We parked well out of the way of it and didn't get a note or vandalized so I guess it's cool. Parked and launched from river right last week without any problems. Getting your gear down to the creek is harder from that side though. Haven't had any luck finding a place to launch above CCO but below Hartwick Mill.
