Gear Storage Idea

Post by RandyJ » Sat May 23, 2009 9:12 am

The I/T guys at work upgraded some computer hardware and were about to throw out a rack-mount cabinet. I saved it from the landfill and set it up in my garage for gear storage. All I did was add a hanger rod at the top, and some wire shelving from Lowe's for a floor and half-shelf in the middle. It's tidy, ventilated, and keeps gear out of the U/V rays. One of these days, I may put a light in it with a door-activated switch.

I've already commandeered another one for Okieboater that's even nicer than this one. Check with your I/T guys - you may be able to score a similar deal.

That's awesome - the server mounts are still in there
Stick one in the living room with the kayak in it like it's on Display. Maybe even stick a blue/gree/red light at the bottom for illumination.
That's priceless bro

That is a great storage area for the wet gear!! The idea about lighting it up with your kayak in there would be sweet!!

Everyone should have one of those for their gear!! Too bad they can cost way over $500 when new!!

I have one in my garage holding my golf clubs. This seems like a much better use.

Yea, the server cabinets are great! I had one that looked just like it but black, with tinted front glass that I set up to use for my largest Iguana. It made a great cage, and I had the heat lamps at the top, with large branches running top to bottom so she could access the whole thing. Worked exceptionally well, and was relatively easy to clean.
The versatility of those things is awesome!

Good find, and good idea for the gear storage.
