Yes, it's at Dierks. Guess I will break out the Hero and plop off in the 3rd hole. I need to learn how to roll that thing under pressure

Bob, I'll probably be busy Sat., but if it doesn't rain a bunch, I'll try to head to Deirks Sunday morning. I'll have no trouble winning a swimfest. May bring my Buzz.....it's only natural to swim from it.

A version of SwimFest is being organized to happen on Sunday, but could happen anytime over this weekend or over the next several weekends as Dierks will be running for a while at a great level and Rockport will be running high. So come on down whenever you can.

Now SwimFest is fun and everyone laughs a lot but its true purpose is for each person to face their fears and do things they would normally not do. Since it is a relatively controlled environment you can push yourself out of your comfort zone and if it results in a swim, who cares. Some people’s biggest fear, is swimming in front of their friends, or someone seeing them get worked or swim. I say, go swim in front of them and do it on purpose. The water will be warm, you will get self rescue practice; the people on the bank will get throw rope practice; and after a couple of times you will not care what others think.

Come on down, look me up, ask me questions. There are actually several tricks and techniques you can use and practice that will not only help you deal with the features at Dierks but also benefit your paddling anywhere you go. Bring any boat and be any level of paddler, I guarantee you can learn something. I am offering up my knowledge and will work with anyone who asks. (although, if I am in the middle of a throwdown session you might have to wait a bit)

The fear I plan to face this weekend is to stay in the hole longer then I normally do. I am afraid of getting wind-ed and then getting out of control, leading to getting worked and ultimate, a swim. I also plan to paddle my creekboat into the hole without a paddle, while wearing a blindfold. :hammer:

I'd like to see that! (I know I'm getting a bit too conservative, maybe this would inspire me to shake off a few cobwebs...)

I have not been to Dierks so I will contribute the stupid question of the day: For those of us lacking a true creeker, would there be any point in showing up with say a Jackson Fun??? I know that probalby wouldn't be fair if the prizes are based on the most swims.....

Anyone going from Conway/LR???

Never been but my understanding is that there are plenty of other places to surf besides hole #3 and also a short down river section. See the link below for a write up.

Like I said bring ANY boat and have a good time. I will be playing mostly in my Allstar. And you don't have to swim and may not. The 3rd hole is quite easy to play in and paddle out of. The whole point of the "Swimfest" is to try to get yourself into situations that make you uncomfortable and learn how to deal with them.

The creekboat factor is that the higher volume of the creekboats actually makes them want to surf more then the lower volume playboats that tend to sub-out under the pile and wash out easier. This forces the paddler to have to deal with the hole and do "thing" to get out rather then just waiting to flush downstream.

Yes, Adam there are 3 playspots there by the playground. You can also surf on the wave down by the beach and of course there is the fun 2 mile run down to the low water bridge. I plan to do that as well after getting beat down in the waves and holes. I am actually one of those who gets extremely embarrassed about swimming and so I don't really push myself just in case I can't roll and have to swim. Hopefully I learn something useful this weekend
