West Fork White River Cleanup Day (6-13-09)

Post by Half Ton » Fri Apr 24, 2009 11:07 am

The West Fork EPA is organizing a creek cleanup for the West Fork of White River on Saturday June 13th (6 -13-09).

Frances Hime of the WF-EPA has asked me if the the ACC would be interested in volunteering some folks for the cleanup - again  .

I know a bunch of folks helped out last year with the cleanup  , but this year she is asking if the ACC wants to provide canoe lessons or flyfishing lessons (I guess the idea is to help teach people to increase interest ?) .

Anyway, just wanted to pass this along and check and see if anyone was interested and would formally like to say yes, talk personally with Frances, or offer a counter offer - like boatball and a booth or something else.

She is a very nice and sweet woman who would love to have some help from the ACC. It may be another good opp to recuit some new members or something as well.

If anyone (FISH) or anyone else (West Fork Residents), or even anyone else (Drinkers of Beaver Lake Water) would like to like to field this one just give me a PM and I will gladly share the contact info for Frances.

Ok, I have had some PMs regarding member interest in helping out with the cleanup, but boat instruction/boatball has been a low topic of interest up until this point......

On the other hand, PM's regarding taking part in the cleanup by individually claiming a section of interest, or a teaming up on a section as an ACC group is more common.

So, not in a leadership capacity, based on PMs I am inferring that the NW ACC does not want to teach canoe lessons or fly-fishing lessons, but would rather just take part in the clean up and maybe have a booth ?

I can not make the mtg tonight as I will be going to a visitation, but if someone wants to bring this up and talk about it and decide that would be great.

But If not, then I will assume that a low level of organized committment and an undetermined level of dis-organized committment is the case.

Either way, This woman has asked for ACC involvement and I am trying to figure out in what capacity ACC members would like to be involved.

Please let me know whats up when you get a chance.

I'm disorganized and like to pick up trash, so count me in for some disorganized clean-up.

Dis-organized sounds good to me. Shoot, I mean, it's my specialty.

As soon as I admitted that Dis-organized is my specialty I have been asked to be organized by the creek clean up organizers.

I need some help for this....Please

The Cleanup is from 8 to 11 and I need some folk to lead a cleanup effort for the designated cleanup sites (which have not yet been designated). Being a leader only requires waiting at the West Fork park until enough people show up to be considered a cleanup crew, and then leading the crew to the spot and then cleaning or watching the crew clean.

There will certainly be some creek access points where people can drive to and pick up trash, there will be some creekbed walk and pick-up, and if there is enough water to float a section then that will happen also.

Is anyone interested in helping me out in performing this role for the cleanup ? I will lead a group, and hope that someone else will do the same. Ideally having 5 leaders from the ACC would be great.

Or having a group of ACC folk claim a section would also be great.

Please PM me to let me know. Thanks for your support.

John Pennington

Oh yes, I almost forgot, there will be food and door prizes from 11-1.

Basically 5 reaches have been identified (Winslow to Fayetteville) i fully expect drought, and not a drop of rain between now and then.

So....the river could be dry and floating could potentially not happen, but, and I mean BIG BUT, The ACC could be recognized as a sponsor, have logo on the event flyer through only providing volunteers.

Seems like a good deal to this NW chapter member.

Top 5 reasons for ACC 5 river reach teams (team consists of at least 2 people)

# 5 Almost all of NW chapter drinks water from Beaver Lake which is fed partially by the West Fork.

# 4 NW chapter boatball takes place at West Fork Riverside park.

# 3 ACC can be recognized with logo on the event flyer as AWESOME by lots of folk who may not know bout how awesome the ACC is.

# 2 Some people doubt the ability of this cleanup to cover 25 river miles or so (obviouslly they have never heard of the mulberry cleanup, lee creek cleanup, and etc. .

# 1 There's free food and door prizes for participants
