Aw heck Spanky,
My first time down the Tot was in a Pelican wreck boat with a daytripper paddle, bicycle helmet, and a sterns fishing vest. Did 246 to 278 with only one swim below the machine after Cannonball.
Did BMF backwards! Ran Devil's Hollow Fall clean. That was my introduction to WW.

Tom...

P.S. not bad for an old man.(got the pics to prove-it).
Did I mention...I LIKE PURPLE SNOWCONES!!!

Tom,

My first time in a kayak was in piney at 4 ft, in a rec boat, with a rec paddle, and a 2 pannel foam life jacket that I had my mom cut in half and sew up so it would be shorter (like real kayakers!). I was 12 and ran the first rapid backward.

My first time on the tot I was 16, it was 4.5 ft. I had the same paddle, lifejacket, and helmet. My only swim was after going through washing machine, and getting sucked back (you can get sucked back in?!) and my spray skirt popping itself off. Before then piney was the biggest thing I'd been on. Thank you Jeremy and Lucas for showing me what real whitewater was and how much fun it is.

I had a yellow pelican rec boat for a couple weeks last year, and promptly sold it, not much use for it anymore
It could be worse, it could stop raining

Without the Sherpa I don't know how such epic descents as the White Nile, Selway, Tsang pho, or Cadron would have been possible.

The real plus to taking a sherpa is that once you get done with the falls it carries all your gear back up
