Intervention
Re: Intervention
Wow. I step out of the state for a few days and miss all kinds of stuff...
Sounds like ACC message board was instrumental in getting back the Moores' raft. Boaters look out for their own. Glad we, the ACC as an organization and paddlers as a group, could help.
Also, man, the "ACC Bashers" seem to have themselves a really small but extremely loud and whiny organization. Truly there folks who are ACC members who are occasionally jerks... just like there are paddlers of every possible background who are occasionally jerks. But to paint the organization as a whole as a bunch of jerks (jackasses, douches, vag's, whatever) on the group's own message board... well that can't help but be a little hypocritical, can it? Kind of like hating on man-made whitewater (e.g. Rockport park plans) while spreading the love about paddling spillways...
Anyway, I'm moving out of the state soon to KC, and I'll miss seeing the folks in the paddlers in this fine state (and the surrounding ones too) quite as much as I used to. That includes all the jerks, jackasses, teachers, crusaders, creekers, playboaters, giants, vagin*s, dutch oven cooks, dumba**es... every ramp-o-death jumpin, raft-thief-nabbin, spillway-runnin, soul-boatin, PFD-patch-wearin, red-boat-fleetin, bubba-keg-totin', fun-lovin' paddler out there. Every d*** one of you.
Keep your a** under your head and may it rain on all your shuttles and the sun shine on your paddle blades!

So when I quote this on my facebook page, should I give credit to you, or did you get this from someone? Want to make sure I get the right references, don't want to break the law. Re: Intervention
Awe fish, we always just have fun. I am not painting the whole board in any color. But to paint people as whiners that have tried to fit in and been pushed out because they don't think exactly down the acc party line, or your version of it is absolutely wrong. I have been belittled over goofy stuff like "who got norrell rash". But if you feel the need to dig at me about being a non-member poster when I say something that you do not agree with, don't think I'll just lie down and let you "Enlighten" me in an unflattering fashion. I just told someone I fell into the trap I always try to avoid. I try to invision what new boaters would think when they see us interacting together on the board. Would it make them want to be a part of us? I sat back and watched the craziness with amazement at times. And as I said before, I know and appreciate the time involved in keeping things going in any club. If in your post, you need to include the words"well I probably shouldn't" then your right, you probably shouldn't. Now gimmee a big ol hug and tell me where you hid my foil helmet. I don't know if we ever met personally, but keep hanging out here when you move.
Re: Intervention
Dern...hate I missed whatever happened on here while we were gone. I thought it was a long way to Treat and back! We're back from the Cossatot with the raft. Thanks again to everyone!

Re: Intervention
Sorry, hole-man, just have had enough of folks trying to kick the ACC in the groin in the past year or so. I've lobbied hard for ACC as a club to reach out to non-member boaters, to listen to them, and to let them speak their mind too. Just kind of hurts to see those folks I and others have defended take pot-shots on here at ACC, thus making the job that much harder for me in the future.
Anyway, I was just in a sore mood and shooting somewhat randomly - sorry about that. Wasn't trying to criticize you for being a "non-member" at all - the non-members on here are one of the essential things about this board to me. A chance for ACC to reach out to the larger boating community and make a difference. Sure didn't mean for my post to be construed as an attack on non-ACC members. Also, I'd be disappointed indeed if you laid down for anything. :) I appreciate what you bring to this board, and we should definitely paddle and talk sometime instead of just typing in little boxes. Let's do that.

Re: Intervention
So kowper and I have been talking behind the scenes. He appearently didn't intend comments directed at me. Much to the contrary. He was actually speaking tongue in cheek trying to be more INCLUSIVE and I took it to be the opposite. So let me be the first to apologize for jumpin' to conclusions. I let my past experiences come into play when they shouldn't have.

Re: Intervention
Thanks Suckhole. I'm glad we got that straightened out - the worst thing we could do would be to let it brew!
I really was trying to point out that EVERYBODY helped get the Moore's raft back!

Re: Intervention
I know what you mean fish and deeply-really deeply regret if I made it harder too(your job and efforts). I absolutely do not want to down the canoe club in any way. Just trying to bring to light how sometimes we get carried away with our own ideas, even they are for all the right reasons. I am not above doing so myself, as we see how far off topic this thing got. There's plenty more folk wanna get involved and not be just whining, though. I think the question becomes how do you do it in a way where everybody feels they are a part. Maybe I should have stuck to my guns and made more effort even though I felt unwelcome by some. Maybe I should get off my butt and join back up so's I don't feel attacked if some-one mentions non-members. Then maybe get the others who feel left out to join and come hang with me-the other outcast:) then we're not outcast no more.
Re: Intervention
Or maybe I could show the outcast some of my cool pm's by people like Lupe and help talk them into giving the fresh blood at the ACC time to work. Maybe we could form Lupe's outcast support group.

I'll lobby to form a new "Outcast Chapter" to the club if I need to! I'm membership chair, so I think I can do that!

Seriously - thanks for the dialogue. Much appreciated.

Re: Intervention
I think this negativity toward the ACC started when the recovery of the raft was put into the context of being all about the ACC.....when in fact it was about all boaters/paddlers who were there. Cowper tried to re-direct it to all boaters but as he is a known ACC cheerleader, it sometimes is taken wrong or not serious. The ACC is a great organization but some members just need to ramp it down some and realize that "all things about paddling in Arkansas" is not controlled or made possible by the ACC. I have a 30+ years history as a paddler around here and I'd say the ACC has been a small part of it...but not as important as some members seem to think. I love this message board and think it's a great asset to all of us and played a huge role in the raft's recovery....but....if we didn't have this board there would be another board used by area paddlers....as it's all part of the world we live in nowadays. So, I am extremely happy that Carrie, Deb and family are re-united with their raft and I give ALL paddlers who were there credit for it happening. When it all went down at the Falls, the only "club" that I saw was that of "paddlers" coming together to figger out how to handle the situation and we all did just fine without club labels.
