Canoe School Pics

Post by GN YAKN » Wed May 06, 2009 2:17 pm

First off, Kudos to Mark and Patti for a wonderful event. It was obvious how much work and planning had gone into the event as the registration, check-in and other formalities went very smoothly. Thanks to all who helped in every way. (Especially those that made my dinner on Saturday night!)

Amos put on one of the best General Membership meetings I can remember. We have had a bad habit of blowing through those meetings very rapidly and this year's meeting was actually a good meeting!

Gary "Jalepeno" Paladino and I had a great class of six teenagers. They were a truly delightful bunch to hang out with for the weekend. While at the lake on Saturday we tried to make the best of things under the pavillion, talking, talking, fading, drifting off tooooooo sleeeeeeep.....

I looked at our group and said, "Want to go do something fun?!?" Of course they all said in unison, "We bow to your authority as our elder and weekend instructor oh wise one, and we are willing to endure many more hours of your pontification on the wonders of what it is like to actually paddle a boat in order that we shall honor our parents and the substantial financial sacrifice that they have made for our benefit."

I told them, too bad, we're going on a waterfall safari! Check out our pics at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gnyakn" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The Captain Morgan shot is my favorite. 8)

Most of the shots were of two falls. The first in the series is right by the High Bank access on the Mulberry. The creek is visible from the Hwy 220 right across from the entrance to the High Bank access. You can see the creek but you really have to look to see the fall high up on the hill. Short hike, bushwhack, straight up hill to see the best views.

The other fall is the one on Hwy 23 South of Turner Bend in the big hairpin turn. You have to hike up hill on this one to see the really pretty part of the stream.

The small fall is just south of the Turner Bend parking lot. Brad has built nice little path that makes it very accessible.
