Buffalo River shuttle ?

Post by thebob.com » Tue Apr 21, 2009 9:48 am

Planning on 3 or 4 day, Buffalo River trip, from Ponca to Gilbert.
Suggestions on outfitters that will pick vehicles at Ponca & run them down to Gilbert?
Any idea on price per vehicle?
Contact information for outfitters?

Thanks,

BOC (Buffalo Outdoor Center in Ponca) will do it. Last time I checked, they charged the same price to shuttle your vehicle as they charged for renting you boats and shuttling you. Might want to check before you go.

Pretty pricy from most of them.

Buffalo River Outfitters near Tyler Bend says they charge $90 to take your car from their store to Ponca(or I guess recover your car from Ponca). They'd probably add a little extra to take it over to Gilbert after picking it up. Not sure if that includes tax.

Buffalo Outdoor Center in Ponca offers $92/car, tax included, to take your car to Gilbert.

I've seen simular prices from other outfitters, but I don't remember which ones.

If it were me I'd just drive two cars and leave one at each end. Even coming all the way from Little Rock that would cost less in gas $$ than paying for the shuttle. Better still if you are paddling with friends who are coming from someplace else and can coordinate.

Thanks to all who responded with excellent information.

The information confirmed what I thought.......it would cost us about $200.00 to have 2 vehicles shuttled from Ponca to Gilbert.
That would be more than round trip gas cost for both vehicles for the whole trip, a good steak dinner for everyone after we get off the river, a round of frosty beverages to wash down the steak, and a good tip for the waitress.

We'll be doing our own shuttles.

BOC is not the only outfitter in Ponca--they just want you to think they are. Try the very nice folks at Lost Valley 870-861-5515.

When BOC is the only outfitter--look out!

Lost Valley is very nice and the folks there are very accomadating. I forgot to mention them, did not know they would do private shuttles.

I know I was shocked when I checked out the cost of a shuttle down there. BOC in Ponca used to do shuttles Ponca to Kyles for $20. I think they decided they wanted to rent boats rather than run shuttles.
