Big Helmets

Any ideas for a nice helmet in the 7-5/8 to 7-3/4 range? My head measures 24.25".

I've got a large cranium also. I picked up a used "Sweet" Strutter" helmet and without the Velcro place to fit pieces it is still rather roomy. Depending on whether or not I was wearing a skull cap underneath, dictated where I stuck the fitment pieces.
I think NOC had the red ones on sale recently. I can't say where the best deal of the day could be had on one.

I just checked and they have their Legend 08' helmet on for $149.99.

When it came out it was a Two hundred plus dollar helmet.

Aside from the price, I really like the Sweet Strutter, but the sizing concerns me - they say L/XL is 59-61cm. 61cm is 24 inches, or basically a 7-5/8. So I'm on the very upper end of that range - maybe a little bigger. Is that size range based on the fit pads they provide? It can be worn without them? Comfortably?

The snow ski helmets come in size xxl and even xxxl

I have been boating in them for years and feel they are better constructed than the average white water helmet.

I believe it has a pretty comfortable fit. I do use the thin Velcro pads in varying locations to snug it up depending on whether or not I have a skull cap on. My thickest pile cap requires no extra fitment, but is still a little on the looser side. If you had a chance to try one on and it fit, I'll bet you buy it. If you were in L.R. i'd let you try mine.

Some of the other helmets out their with no material over the interior foam can pretty easily be shaved out with some course sandpaper to fit. I'm kinda fond of the Wildwasser competition style helmet for summertime use. But I retired mine after I got Scott Shiply's autograph on it. For the last few summers I've been wearing an old "Ace" plastic suspension style. "like a hard hats, fully adjustable." Its so light you don't even know your wearing a helmet. I believe "Seda" offers a duplicate of this brain strainer. "referring to its abundant venting." I consider it Rockport friendly, But I don't do the steepies with it.

i wear a 7 5/8 in a hat... which is a little loose... so prolly 7 1/2 and i have to use the large fitting pads in the shready ready helmets... think you could fit it... dunno about with a skull cap though..

I have the same issue. Head Trip makes a few models that are larger than both the Sweet and Shred Ready (according to the measurements listed anyway). That was one of the reasons I went with Head Trip.
