So, a sign, a box, a padlock, instructions, and maybe a gate. Is this the issue? Why not just have the ACC pay for those things and be done with it?

The instructions could explain how to fold a piece of paper to enclose the money and write the license plate # on the outside. Then you have to make sure to contract out someone that has a spooky school bus converted into a tow truck that's parked out in the woods somewhere for any potential violaters.

Hey, I don't know if this idea would help out any, but what about making a season pass. Let's say you could pay X amount of dollars and recieve a sticker of some sort and instructions on where to put it on your vehicle and you could pay for your yearly usage up front. That would make it easier to pay for your parking and you could have a cool sticker to go on your rig at the same time. It would help them raise a little more revenue up front for the parking. It would also be easy to see if someone had paid to park there if you were going to use it a lot, and you could still buy a one day pass if you wanted to as well.
Just a thought,

Why not just set up a deposit box like at long pool or any of the other parks? If someone did not have the right slip of paper on the dash have them towed. It wouldn't take long before everybody paid in fear of being towed.

This is just not something the Byrds are gonna mess with if they have to have anyone towed. If they feel the need for that, they'll just shut it down and not mess with it. They also said they'd really rather not mess with a pay box there, worrying about vandalism and having to check the box pretty often. Basically we have a spot here that is not worth much of the Byrds time and effort - it's not so much that they expect to generate vast sums of money, but they want the property and themselves to be respected and for it to generate enough to maybe help cover any expenses they have. That ain't much to ask. If they hadn't been taken advantage of pretty seriously when they tried the honor system, everything would be cool and we wouldn't be talking about all this right now...

Season pass stickers sound interesting to me, but, again they might be gun shy of things that can seemingly be forged pretty easy. I know our local city lake here has had some pretty rampant forging of their passes using color printers... including some ACC folks in the past. I'll mention it, but don't hold your breath.

All of these suggestions are fine, but right now the paddling community needs to just demonstrate that we will respect the wishes of the landowners, period, whatever those may be. If they "feel the love" at Whoop, then maybe they'll be more open to things that'll make our lives a little easier out there. Or at least they won't feel compelled to close it so that late afternoon park-n-play becomes a thing of the past...

Fish, old buddy, I agree with everything you say! The people that want to park and play just need to man up, and pay for the services that they are using. 100% is pretty hard to get, there will always be someone who will disagree, and a gate or lock or keycard system or even drop box is prohibitive due to either costs, maintenance, or vandalism. If we want to still have this resource, everyone should just pay, then play!

The people who use Whoop access are private boaters and a great many are ACC members. The user fee is reasonable and in line with any other private access fees. The answer seems pretty simple to me. Don't be a butt, pay Byrds your money and use the access.
Keep looking, it's out there somewhere.

A number of posts were removed from this thread because they were discussions unrelated to the Whoop & Holler access issue.

Note, although multiple posters had material removed, no actions or warnings were issued for any poster (with one exception). After review and discussion among several moderators, it was determined that restoring the threads later would only be a further distraction from the original purpose of this thread. Concerns about moderator actions should be addressed directly to one of the moderators using the "PM" feature.

Please keep discussion on this public thread restricted to the more important issue: What do we need to do to retain access at Whoop & Holler?
