Boatball Carnage 2009
"...a light falling sound, as of grains of sand being sprinkled from a window overhead, gradually spreading, intensifying, acquiring a regular rhythm, becoming fluid, sonorous, musical, immeasurable, universal: it was the rain." --Marcel Proust

Is there an official or nonofficial rule book for Boatball?

Re: Boatball Carnage 2009
Rule #1: thou shalt not paddle whilst the ball is in thy possession.
Rule #2: thou shalt pass to a teammate across the goal line to score. If ye faileth, and the ball toucheth the waters beyond your goal line, you shalt surely turneth the ball over to the other team. Then there shall be a great wailing and gnashing of teeth from thy teammates.
Rule #3: Be thou safe: Throweth not thy paddle. Striketh not thy opponent with thy paddle. Use not thy paddle in close quarters with other paddlers. Take it easyeth on beginners. Let not thy anger become thy game. Keepeth not the score, for who giveth a crap about who wins?
(King James Version)

Rule #5: Thall shall automatically and instantly ceaseth play when anyone turneth over. Play shall noteth resume until all boaters are back uprighteth and in their water craft.
I seem to remember breaking my nose on my first demonstration game at Devil's Den when I got rammed up against the goal float knocking wind out of me and flipped, then had a spud boat do an ender into my face while I was setting up for my roll. They said they didn't see me upside down and they were trying to grab the ball. When I got home, Susan said I had to get a helmet with a face mask if I was going to keep playing Boatball. Having played ice and street hockey in my distant youth, I now have a hockey helmet with wire face cage for playing boatball. Think I was usually oldest player there, but no slack was ever cut for my near senior citizen status or 45% remaining heart function, but then I tried not to cut Most of them any either for their lack of experience. They did make me give back the ball when a 5 year old gave it to me from the bow of his father's canoe.
No, it isn't a rough and tumble game, but you will get a work out similar to doing wind sprints, but it is the best pratice for whitewater if nothing is running.
Missed last season due to re-breaking thumb three times and my mother dieing. On injured reserve list now for C3-C7 problems. Might show up in a canoe just to get in the way sometime.

Get thyself in the way then.
And as for rule #4, I question the validity of that. Ramming an opponent when they are trying to throw the ball is probably my favorite move.

Folks are always trying to add on more testaments and such. Ignore false prophets! Ramming boats falls under First Aquaticus, Chapter 2, Verse 4:
Eric's 5th rule is a good one tho. :)

That covers a multitude of sins.Do unto other boatballers as you would have done unto you.

I'm with J-dog... Take boat ramming out of the game and I don't want to play anymore. That's the best part!jermdog wrote:Get thyself in the way then.

That being said I choose to ram people I know well enough to know that they can take a lickin'. I even apologized to a couple of folks I didn't know for minor bumpage... I darn sure didn't apologize to Spanke for intentionally trying to turn him over every time he got near me though :) It all just takes a little common sense boys and girls...
Smile, summer run-off is coming!!!
