Re: Fishing Equipment Recommendations?
I use a gloomis gl2 ultralight, 2 to 4lb maxima line, it stretches better than most so it just doesn't snap. I use jigs for trout and smallmouth. You can get the jigs and the equipment at southtown. The rod is about 140 ish if I remember and then for a reel, a shimano with a single handle is great, 1000 series in whatever reel you get, I think mine is a sonora maybe. For trout black, olive, and sculpin olive jigs never fail. For smallmouth I have had luck with black, and also the brown/orange jigs. Get a 1/16 oz jig for trout and smallmouth when there is little to no water running and a 3/32 when there is, fish off the bottom, the fish hit it on the way back down when you are jigging it. Also when fishing on the buffalo and kings I have had great success with finess worms and trick worms, watermelon and pumpkin colors work best. Also you can never go wrong when fishing for small mouth with smithwick rogues and chug bugs/spooks. Hit the eddies and pools behind the big rocks in the current.
As for fly fishing ihave no clue. Hope this helps.

Re: Fishing Equipment Recommendations?
For flyfishin;
I use a 8 ft 6 wt. (with a bass taper line) and a 7.6' 4 wt. I prefer these shorter rods for the more closed in casting quarters you'll find on smaller rivers and creeks. Streamers make up most of my fly selection and "near 'nuff sculpin" type patterns for probing the depths. All of these I tie fairly heavy, hence the 6 wt. Poppers, nymphs and some dries I use the 4 wt. If you're wanting to chase some Carp/Red horse, better throw in an 8 wt.
As a fishing craft I use kick boat/cataraft. Mine is rated for class II whitewater. Row for control and speed. Use swim type fins while fishing (my trolling motor if you will).

What is this spincasting???
Pretty well agree with JimE. Never brought a 6wt though. Might be fun when hooking a carp.

Re: Fishing Equipment Recommendations?
In the spincast category we hammered the smallies using these trailers made by zoom. Although they are mainly supposed to be used as trailers from spinnerbaits and eakins jigs. Just use a 1/8 or 1/4 oz jighead depending on what depth you are fishing at. http://image.basspro.com/images/images2 ... colors.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Work the jig off the bottom(aka bouncing/ dragging). We have had good success the past few years using these.
Reel: Abu Garcia Cardinal 101
Rod: Berkley Fusion 5'(Liight Action)
Line: Berkley Vanish 6lb test

I use a 6 foot rod with a mitchel reel. 6lb test rooster tails, beatle spins, and small purple worms. Fly Rod I use a 7 foot 4wt Temple Fork rod with a Reddington reel. and a 4X tapered leader.
One of these days we will be able to run the Cadron without seeing a tire.
