Last Minute Kayak Instructor Ed. Opportunities

Post by Kim Tucker » Thu Mar 26, 2009 9:48 pm

We've had some folks that had to drop out of the kayak ACA instructor certification class scheduled for this spring and have some last minute spaces available. The class will be at the whitewater level (ACA Level 4) and certifies the instructor to teach on class II-III water. Gordon Black will be the instructor trainer. Gordon was the director of instruction at NOC and one of Paddler Magazines "Paddlers of the Century." Gordon is a great guy and a fantastic instructor. If you missed the last announcement and want in on this opportunity, send me an e-mail at dktucker@windstream.net as soon as possible Details below.

Existing instructors: We're planning to do an "update weekend" with Gordon this summer, but the date has yet to be decided. We probably have room for a few instructors to get their update during the IDW or ICE. If you do it during the IDW, cost will be $75.00 including group meals, but you pay for your own camping. If you want to do it out east during the ICE, we might cut a deal.

Details:

The IDW will be the weekend of April 17-19 probably on the Mulberry and will probably begin by noon on Friday. The ICE will be May 15-17 and will be "out east" (NC/TN/AL) because Class III water is essential for certification and we don't want to risk not having adequate water here. The cost will be $250.00 which includes the class fee, some meals, and any camping fees. Candidates must be ACA (American Canoe Association) members, and will also need to join the SEIC of the ACA before the class begins. Candidates will also be required to obtain the ACA Instruction Manual and a student packet before the class begins. More information on the ACA certification requirments including instructor criteria can be found on the ACA website at http://www.americancanoe.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Kim,

Will the instructor update weekend be held here in Arkansas?

Yes, the update weekend will probably be at Rockport this summer. One evening + one day kayak, and one evening +one day canoe.
