Cossatot tomorrow? Wed March 18th?

Post by Peter Holcombe » Tue Mar 17, 2009 10:50 pm

I think my wife and I are heading down to the Cossatot tomorrow on Wed. March 8th from Hot Springs. Anyone else going? We would love to hook up with some one and share the shuttle.

The tot will be around 3 feet on wed, its on the low end for a run but you can still do it. You may want to check out the caddo or the ouachita rivers.

thanks, we are looking for something in the class 3-4 range. It looks like they are class 1-2 runs, am I correct?

Do you think meeting up with others for the Tot be hard during the week?

Thanks for the recomendations!

It will be at this level. You look at

Good play here not much as far as river running.

Peter,we're all screwed for getting class III/IV today.Would love to go back a week from today  Can you make that happen?Anybody? You could take a pretty float down the Caddo w/ the fishing pole.DragOver is another.Other than that we could get together in the Spa and have a few beers talking about class III/IV and wish, wish we had a snow pack or something... I personally know of some who paddled the Tot many times below three foot. It was years before they actually had time to make the trip to Arkansas for a more timely high water run. Its still runnable, but it turns into a micro creek run because of all the rocks one must negotiate to make the trip down. My only run at this level was done in a sub forty gallon boat. This led to my pinning multiple time in the ess's. All I had to do was wrench around and brace off a rock or three to get free. Other than that I had near zero issues. Your still needing a shuttle puts you at a disadvantage being as their might not be anyone there. Bring a bike, run, hitch a ride if??

Anyway, run it if you can and want too, as it can be done. Just cant help you with a shuttle. Enjoy the day at the Falls if nobody else shows up. I have gone down there many time over the years just to play the falls at this level, its not quite as intimidating to some.

If you head for the caddo, there is one double ledge on the lowest section that has a little play depending on the level. I would think it would be there today but not sure. It is only a 4.5 mile float should have decent current at todays level anyways put-in is Hwy 182 bridge and take out is Hwy 84 bridge. I could help you with shuttle but can't go today.

Also, the section from the narrows to Hwy 70 bridge at glenwood would be nice today. I could not help you with shuttle on this section, but Caddo River Rentals or Arrowhead probably could. I recommend Caddo River because I like there take out better.
