I agree Clif, Good Maps and good planning for all your trips Richard!

I think referring to to accesses like Pruitt and Grinders Ferry by the park service was a good thing for the preservation of name and place certainly. However, unlike Bakers Ford and others truly out at the 'jumping off place', and worthy of a gander at the old map, I think both Pruitt and Grinders Ferry could more accurately be understood by the most people simply referred to as the Hwy 7 and Hwy 65 access respectively. :)

Best Regards

Karla, this morning I lost my paddling partner. I am sure Jon will be there to use the kayak but if you don't bring it, I will have him paddle with me.

To all:
The forecast changed since I looked at it last night. it is now calling for 30MPH gusts so if anyone decides to cancel I understand fully. Wind gusts of this magnitude have the potential to push a boater lacking experience in this type of wind into low hanging branches, rocks and in some cases overturn a canoe.
I will be at Baker Ford and unless you are there at 10:30am, I am going to assume you have decided not to float today.

Clif, we will promptly leave Baker at 11am to do the shuttle.
That means we need to be at Baker by 10:30 to unload etc.
So nothing has changed in that regard. Sorry for the confusion.

Great day on the river with good company despite the wind. Really wasn't that bad a wind I feel. Enjoyed watching the children having fun and Lance paddling his new whitewater boat. Lance did a great job in it, showed me up. Glad to meet some of you for the first time and again for the second time. Look forward to another great trip. Maybe will rain and can do Ponca to Kyles.

Only a couple of times did the wind get to be a problem for me. Other times I was able to get near the shore and get out of it. It could have been zooming in our face all day. Been years since I was on this section and I would have been mother hen(ing) a fleet of church kids. Lots of it I did not remember.. or see with leaves on. Awesome sight seeing the 'nursery' tree full of nests as the birds came in just as we went under.

Great to meet folks. From the shuttle that could have had legal issues to crossing paths with some of the participants at a restaurant some 40 miles away after...as they all are.. a day to remember.

Richard and all, thanks for a great trip. I had a great time. Sorry I didnt get a chance to say farewell, I had to take richard to his car at baker's ford. I enjoyed having the kids around, they were all very well behaved...Great Kids!
Carla and Gary, thanks again for loaning me the Approach, I was very impressed by the way it paddled, and am thinking about buying one in the future.
Again, thanks to all and I'll see you all on the river!

Thank you all for making this a memorable trip for the grandkids. Here are the photos. Mostly of the grandkids. I hope others will post their pictures as well in order to see the trip from a different perspective.
On our way to the Buffalo we stopped at a spring to get a drink. After the float we stopped at the Collier Homestead and walked out to the overlook. It provides a great view of the Buffalo at Calf Creek. It had been a while since I have done just this section. Shorter is always better. I forgot just how nice this section was.
I am pleased that when the park rangers pulled us over, they did not find any problems.
A wonderful day.

David and I had a great time...it was nice to meet all you folks. It's always nice to see people getting along just to share the outdoors. I look forward to the next trip.

Yeah, I'm glad those rangers pulled this bunch over and checked them out. Coulda been some terrorists in the bunch! Especially after checking out those pictures! You guys must have done something to get the law checking you out!

Here are my shots of Buffalo on Saturday. As Gary and I were leaving Grinders Ferry heading north we saw an Eagle flying overhead. We went to Tyler Bend to change clothes and as we came back we decided to drive back to Grinders to look back at the eagles nest we saw next to the highway 65 and so we took a picture of the nest then made the shots closeup and got a picture of the eagle in the nest. You can see the head, eyes and beak. We thought that was cool.
