You're a good straight man! For those who hadn't noticed, there is a small button at the bottom of each post, lower right hand corner. If you "hover" your pointer above it, the function title pops up - "report this post..."

You then get a drop down menu of standard problems, one of which is "commercial spam" or similar words.

I'm not sure which administrators get messages, but I'll bet the spammers will get deleted and banned faster if we all use this button, vs. counting on the moderators to read each and every thread every day...

Boofmaster, what actually happens when you click the yellow exclamation point to report a thread?

I've never noticed the little exclaimation mark before. Maybe because most of the time I lurk and read without bothering to login.

It's there to report the threads, but it's almost invisible. Wouldn't it be a radical idea to make another button that does basically the same thing and put it in a more prominent position and label it "REPORT SPAM" or "REPORT THREAD" or something that folks could actually figure out/remember. Also, David makes a good point that making it available to those just lurking without logging in would be a great idea too...

I don't think making it available to those who are not logged in would be a good idea, but just another headache for who ever gets the reports if anybody. I stay logged in and believe there are enough others that do to control it. I checked some of the other skins and it appears the exclamation button next to quote is universal through all just different skins. I agree that maybe changing the button to say report as fish stated would be a good idea; however, I am still waiting for someone in the know to tell me who is actually notified when you click it?

There are some updates/mods that can be applied to the registration pages that should stop this latest round of spammers. They have just gotten around the captcha for this version of the board. Pretty impressive coding actually for a bunch of lamers.

Since I'm so very sophisticated this is how I prefer to eat my spam.

The Witch of the Message Board is notified, who then dispatches her Flying Monkeys(TM) to deal with the naughty Spammers.

I thought everyone knew that.

What?!? We have Flying Monkeys(TM)? If I had known that, you can rest assured that they would have been dispatched numerous times already on account of this message board. I now have my finger on the Monkey Cage Release Lever, so look out. :sinister:

Actually, the reports go to a secret hiding place in the catacombs of the Moderators Control Panel. I'm not sure who gets a report as of now, but I will make sure that that changes ASAP. Currently, the reports only get seen if a moderator goes to that spot and looks. I check there sometimes, but I've only seen a couple of reports ever.

So :?: the black helicopters are being replaced by the flying monkeys now

Cause I was frightened by those silent mechanisms made by man, but aerial inclined primates controlled by a message board witch is just too unbelievable for me

A secret moderator control panel place Amos? Is that like..the Batcave?

nanananananananananananananana A mos!

nope, doesn't have the same ring to it.

We can put Scroach in a boy wonder suit though. And he can exclaim things like Holy spammers batman! and Jeepers!

ohhh yea, we can also have the spam report yellow yield sign thingy flash up thought balloons that say things like WHAMO!! and KER-SMACK!!

What a board we could make, if only we took our lessons from the boob tube.

sell the monkeys and ground the copters.

just make the spammers move to Memphis and they'll learn paddlin purgatory...
in a short while, they will be fully reformed and remorseful, and return productive citizens.

A few weeks late and a dollar short, I am finally getting around to fixing it. Thanks for the help over the past few weeks with the spammers, not a lot I can do with only a phone for internet.

The message board might go down shortly tonight for an upgrade. So if you catch it down give me 15-20 minutes and it should be back up and running. :D

Also if anyone out there has had problems logging on let me know!!

I plan to report this thread (just to test the feature).

UPDATE: When reported, a large exclamation point becomes visible right next to the thread title. It is visible to moderators who are logged in, but not to regular users. Once the moderator opens and reads the report, he/she can choose to "close" the report, or, click a different button, and leave it "open". If he choses "close", the flag disappears. What happens after that depends on whether or not the moderator agrees the post has violated the guidelines.
