Potential Whitewater kayaking trip week of 2/23
A group of whitewater paddlers (2 open boaters/2 kayakers) are contemplating a trip down to Arkansas. We anticipate leaving Minnesota on the 23rd of February to come down. We are intermediate paddlers looking for class 2/3 rivers to padddle. Any suggestions for rivers to paddle? Any web sites you can suggest for river research? Are rivers running at this time?
Thanks!
Tom
Thanks!
Tom

Whats up Tom, Mullberry, Piney ,Buffalo will be your close choices they are runnig right now. With more rain they should be running on that day or days. Keep those fingers crossed . ACC home page has links for more info. Tim muse With big rains there are a lot of creeks to run, lots of wood down due to last ice storm about 2 weeks ago. So heads up

Try to bring a laptop, and find yourself a wireless connection when you travel. Our best stuff comes up on very short notice; you'll see chatter on this board that will help lead you to cool places where you'll be highly likely to hook up with local boaters.
When you say you're looking for "Class II/III", be advised, that covers a pretty broad range. Some of our guides were written many years ago and rated the rapids very conservatively by modern standards; so when comparing stream ratings, try to use the SAME resource for any "relative" comparisons between streams.
Another tip - the Cossatot is one of the local favorites, but generally considered III/IV. However, there is an access immediately above the Falls section (where the IV comes in), so if you really want some III action, it is still a great place to go. Again, you'll have to get luck on the rain, but, it is "primed" now, so it won't take a whole lot.

Don't rely on the vagaries of a laptop with a w-fi connection---you can't get wi-fi anywhere near where you want to be. Someone in your group should have an iPhone. That's how I do it. The creek levels page from ozarkpages.com is an icon on my home screen. (This listserve is an icon on page three...)

Also, if you don't have an iPhone, you can call me. If it is between the hours of 6:30 AM and 11:30 PM, chances are I have just looked at the gauges....
