Tim Ernst Presentation

Post by sugarmtngal » Mon Dec 08, 2008 1:17 pm

Attended Tim Ernst Presentation on his Photography at Fayetteville Public Library yesterday; it was wonderful. Tim Ernst only has two more presentations scheduled; Fort Smith and Dover.

Program in Fort Smith is this Thursday (12/11) at 7 PM at the Fort Smith Public Library (3201 Rogers Avenue). It will most certainly be standing room only; come by about 6:30 - 6:45 to assure a seat!

There probably isn't anyone who knows the Ozarks better than Tim. Moreover he's probably done more to promote Arkansas' marvelous works and wonders than anyone -- his outdoor photography is at times breathless in its beauty. Anyone in Dover and Fort Smith who is looking for an exceptional show really, really needs to find time to meet with Tim.

But that said -- Tim's new book: The Cloudland Journal is one big yawn!! I know it's a diary and perhaps Ive read a few too many entries from his online log to find anything new within its covers but if you're looking to buy a new Tim Ernst book for yourself or family for the holidays stay with one of Tim's picture books or trail guides. The Cloudland Journal is not for casual reading and is probably of interest only to those who worship Tim's daily regimen. I love ya Tim -- but seriously you might reconsider the idea of printing up Volumes 1 and Volume 2 of the Cloudland Journal. The first volume left me with narcolepsy. I'm proud of anyone who makes it through all 400+ pages -- that is certainly a healthy display of tolerance and patience -- but in the time it took me to read this opus I could have been many miles down the trail.

Tim's presentations are great ... he is also having his pictures on canvas available in his gallery, open to the public (check his website) before the holidays. It is an awesome gallery.
Also, going to his gallery gives new light to reading his journal ... you see the layout of the land, and what a view from the house and gallery! You can also hike just down the road at Hawkscragbill or whatever it's called. Then, go down and hike Lost Valley and go into the cave (have really good knees or knee pads and don't eat much before you go. It's really tight!) And, you can see the elk at dusk as you come down from Tim's or just outside Lost Valley!
It makes for a great trip!!!! All in one day ... start early!
I have also found Tim's journal to be a little slow reading, but, for those of us that might be stressed at times, I have found that picking up the journal and reading it before going to sleep really relaxes me and I get a good night sleep without work or holiday rush stuff going through my mind all night .... So, I'd recommend the book just to destress!

I was going to say my favorite of all his pictures is the one of polished river stones at Steele Creek.
As I was paging through the book there is no way to single out just one an say it is THE favorite.
There are many favorites.
Next time I wander up Steele Creek . . .

Might also mention that during his open house this coming Saturday, December 13th, 10am-3pm that many of Tim's pictures are going to be on sale at 50% off (50 cents per square inch) -- great gift idea. I too don't have a favorite -- so any one will do! Check out Tim's gallery: Buffalo River Gallery.

P.S. I apologize if this seems like a Christmas time"commercial plug" -- but Tim has brought a lot of attention to our Arkansas' natural beauty through his pictures and books and it's the kind of attention that keeps people focused on "keeping the natural state -- and it's waters -- natural". I thought that might be the picture you were alluding to --"prutty roks"!

December 12th, Dover School, Fine Arts building, 6:30pm. The Fine Arts Building is right in the center campus by the football field. The cafeteria is on the back half of this building - you'll see double glass doors on either side of the building which connects the Fine Arts portion of the building to the cafeteria.

Bump!

Just so happens I had the chance to talk with Tim this morning and he asked that I passed along a couple of pieces of information:

DOVER!! This Friday -- tomorrow -- is the last time this year that you'll be able to see Tim's presentation. He is really excited and I expect he'll be sharing the Christmas spirit. Be there.

He also real excited about the "open house" this weekend -- he's eager to share -- and eager to sale (at prices you might not ever see again). The door is open. Come one, come all. :)

And to clarify one other point -- the open house is at the Gallery which is within skip and hop from the cabin at Cloudland. If you've never been there or Hawksbill Crag (which you need to visit if you're up in the area) you'll do best by checing the directions/map on Tim's website: Directions to Cloudland and Buffalo River Gallery.

Richard! That is one of my favorites because it brings me to our Buffalo River Trips - yes; a Geology Course sounds interesting! Keep warm!
