Well they got about .8 of a inch of rain and usually it is enough to get those two rolling. They drop out pretty fast though. This afternoon would be good.
Also looks like Snow Creek should be going. I'm ready to go, just need a somebody to go with.

We are going to get a visual on HSC in about 5 min. The plan is meet at HSC takeout(behind Walgreens) at 2:00.

Scott, don't think HS or Gulpha is running today. Wish they were thou. SFLRed is up today however.

Gulpha Gorge is a step up. Somebody lost a paddle on it the last time I ran it. Today is pretty warm though and the railroad tracks offer a walk out option if things are not going your way.

Scott and JJ, there is a new Hot Spgs gauge here> http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?07358284.
We have not fully figured a reading for a minimal GO level yet. But our guess after Fletcher eyeballed the level at the put in one day, is it's gonna be about 1.5ft for minimum, and 2ft would surely be a GO.
Gulpha's gauge is here> http://contrail.onerain.com/login.php?i ... atic=false

The graph presentation is updated and new, but in the old days, you'd want to see about 600-900 minimum for a go on Gulpha.

Curious. Does the Gulpha run take in that portion that lies within or just above the campground? The chute above the campground looks like it could yield a lot of thrills with a gully washer.
That said -- and I could probably do a search and find the answer -- but where are the accepted access sites on the Gulpha?

When I went with Coogan, Scott, Jaime, Patrick, Joe, Jeff etc. we started off of Rolling Hills road (a side street off of Bald Mtn drive) and ended behind a bar a little past the 270 bridge (MLK expressway). The Bar has changed names every time I go to Hot Springs and I can't keep up. Short and exciting run. That particular put in is no longer available, I don't think, cops ended up getting called. Jaime however found an easier to work with land owner a block up. I've wondered about the section your talking about too but I don't know.

John,
I thought we usually do Ridgeway Rd. to the Hwy 270 Club, or whatever it is this week. But who knows where Coogan would take those gullable first timers, LOL! At the put in, I think permission can be obtained from another landowner by the bridge, since the usual one does not want you there.
Above there we have looked at it some, but there was a hazard I saw someplace, and it all needs a Recon. Way up in the campgrounds, it is narrow but may be runnable if up enough. I think by the time it's high enough up there, it could be real ride on downstream.

Re: Hot Springs Creek / Gulpha Gorge ?
Bald Mountain Road? Sounds more like lower Cedar Creek than the Gulpha -- albeit the two come together near Westinghouse Drive just north of the golf course. Has me thinking that perhaps both are capable of "floating a boat" following a gully washer.
Ok! Thanks Chester. I see now -- running that undeveloped stretch of water right along the railroad tracks. Aerial looks good.
And what about the upper Gulpha? It be tight and tortuous but has some good drops and nice rock and I've seen it a couple of times in flood where it could push a boat -- and would certainly put the lower run into the trees. Anyone put a paddle to it yet? I can't imagine it still being "unclaimed" as a first decent.
