Kyles question
Kyles question
We've been hikin trails that intersect Kyles on the Buffalo. This weekend we went down stream headed to Clemmons Hollow. Just before the river crossing that goes to Camp Orr you pass by an barn and then a two sided rock wall with a chimney and some concrete footings located behind. My Buffalo handbook doesn't seem ta mention anything about it. Does anybody know. Also up Clemmons Hollow at the top of a waterfall there is an old shack. Anybody got info on that?
Re: Kyles question
On river left just before Gar Hole Bluff at Camp Orr and as you start up Clemmons Hollow, there is rock work that is either a rock fence or rock foundation. I don't recall seeing the barn. I must not have ever ventured upstream to the unnamed hollow where the barn is located. On other topos it does show the barn and a house where the rock foundation is located. It seems like it would have been pretty vulnerable to flooding.
The Cabin at the top of the waterfall is part of Camp Orr's Summer Camp program. It was built by the scouts. If my memory serves me correctly it was built over the course of a few years back in the late 1980s-early 1990s.

Re: Kyles question
I knew you would have the answers. You the man. The barn is to the left of the home site as your coming up the creek from the buffalo. Probaly not 100 yards away. It's location is neat has a small creek running right by it. Mighta been a good shine makin place. The cabin on top of the waterfall had me fooled. It looks much older than that. This is probaly going ta be one of my stupid questions but here goes. The signs at Camp Orr say private property. If it's part of the wilderness area or the buffalo area is it ok to roam on? I'm not talking bout right in camp.
Re: Kyles question
I would call the Camp Orr ranger and let him know you are coming and what you would like to do while you are there. The Ranger's house, by road, is on the left shortly after crossing Shop Creek. If you walk up Shop Creek from the road you will come to "Twin", "Triple" Falls. After a heavy rain it is Triple Falls. Most of the time it is Twin Falls. Triple Falls is on the cover of Tim Ernst's Water Falls book. At this time of year you will frequently see elk.
