Buffalo Flows: New Public Screenings

Two more screenings of the documentary, The Buffalo Flows, have been announced. Arkansas Canoe Club members are featured in the film. The first screening is in Fayetteville on Nov. 14 at the U of A.

The second is at the Cinton School in Little Rock on Nov. 20th. You will need to call them in order to reserve a seat.

Debo, The things I have seen Larry Foley do are very professional. Never-the-less, we are all like the blind men describing an elephant and all descriptions are different because of the area of focus.

My area of focus has been those who were instrumental in it becoming a national river. Ken Smith played a vital role in the saving of the Buffalo. He continues to play a vital role with his Buffalo River Handbook and the ongoing construction of the Buffalo River Trail. Was he mentioned at all?

Yes, there is some very good footage of Ken talking about the Buffalo and leading a trail building crew. One part is funny because he has the crew heaving a large boulder out of the way. It rolls down to a perfect position and Ken yells, "Great! It looks like it's been there a thousand years!"

Richard, don't read so much into a single word. DeBo was simply trying to provide the information in a way that was aimed specifically at showing there is an ACC connection to this film, but she could have just as easily said "appear in" or even "make a brief appearance in", instead of "featured in".

The film spends much more time on the roll of the Ozark Society, and specific members like Neil Compton, the Hedges, and yes, Ken Smith, than on any member of the ACC. IMO, the treatment towards those early crusaders (and towards Ken's continued contributions) is very respectful and very professional. Most of the screenings are free - why don't you just go see for yourself?

Debo and Cowper... You guys are stars. Just got back from the Buffalo Flows. It was sold out - wall to wall people. They are also screening it tomorrow around 1 or 2. I have to say I got teary eyed from the first aerial shot of the river. Larry Foley and crew did a beautiful job. To Richard - Ken Smith was there and was honored as one of the unsung heros of the river. s.
