Loss of Dan Saferite

Post by Walter Felton » Sun Nov 02, 2008 5:43 pm

Dan Saferite passed away earlier this week. Dan was from Missouri and sent a fair amount of time paddling in Arkansas a few years ago. He was an extremely talented open boater that I always enjoyed paddling with. Dan came on some hard times and literally spent several years in “troubled waters”. Thankfully he was on the road to recovery when about 14 months ago he suffered a serious car wreck on his way to work. Since that time he has been in a special care facility unable to communicate. He finally gave up the struggle this past Wednesday. I know not many of you knew Dan but he was a fellow boater and at one time a part of the ACC community. Even though he had not been boating for several years his passing is a loss for all of us.

Very, very sorry to hear about this. I had thought from time to time where he was, and how he was doing. He went through the 1st IDW/ICE we did back in '97. He was an excellent person to be with and had such a zest for life. I always enjoyed seeing him and spending time with him. I'm so sorry he went the way he did. I'll think of him when we get on the river again, and hope he's some where padding and smiling like he used to. ty
