Hello Arkansas

Post by FarPastGone » Mon Oct 13, 2008 10:53 am

Well...ya'll may be seeing a lot more of me in the Spring. I received a notice today that I have been accepted to Grad School at UArkansas. Still waiting on word from several other Universities, but I have enjoyed all my time in Arkansas.

It seems like last spring I spent more weekends up there then down here in Texas anyways.

What is the boating community like in Fayetteville? Are there any local playspots that run pretty consistently? From what I can tell it looks like most the good boating is still a few hours from Fayetteville which I will take over 12 hours any day.

What program? Geosciences possibly? There are plenty of boaters around campus and elsewhere. There are two play spots less than an hour - Fishers Ford on the Illinois (close) and Whoop and Holler on the Mulberry (a little farther). If you just want to get in the water there is plenty of places to go less than 2 hours from here. If you want big water you've got to wait for the rain and be flexible.

Everything worked in favor of UA, and I will be moving into a place in Fayetteville after New Years...hopefully January is the start of an exceptionally wet spell in Arkansas over the next couple of years.

There are several of us here on campus that try and get out as often as possible. For some reason we always miss our classes when there is a good rain. But during dry spells, there is a good group of us that play kayak polo in the hyper about every two weeks.

Don't listen to Jermdog  - we are seriously an active paddle team in this neck of the woods! When the rains come down, the plan goes into action and all paddlers get on the rivers. Shuttle is never a problem, and if you need something just put it out on the MSG Board and you'll be taken care of. I am having psychological withdrawals from lack of cfses! Wish we could play boatball -I miss you all. Merry Christmas !

I think the next kayak polo session is scheduled for January 27, 7:30-9:30 pm. It's held in the natorium at the Hyper on the UofA campus. There's usually somewhere between 15 and 20 people, so the teams are usually pretty good.
