Anyone heard any word on Steve Shepherd
Anyone heard any details about Steve Shepherd?
We passed the wreck yesterday during the BDB 100, but I didn't know it was him till this morning when I read it in the paper; he was surrounded by a group of people, but there wasn't an ambulance yet (could only see glimpses of blood and scrapes).
During the ride we were afraid the wreck was someone getting hit by a car, which luckily sounds like it wasn't the case.

Democrat said he was taken to hospital, checked and released. Rider with him said he looked like he took a face plant. Nothing else. HOpe it's was anything more than abrasions.

I was working the Mayflower aid station for the BDB100 all day there with the Faulkner County Amateur Ham Club. I heard from the other ham, stationed at the Hwy 89/365 intersection, that two riders went down. Seems there was a bump, rise, or hole in the roadway that was pretty bad. One rider was patched up with lots of gauze and pads, and was able to continue, the other was transported with what I believe they said was head lacerations and other road rash. No vehicle was involved in that accident, and neither of the riders names were mentioned, assuming now it was him in that particular accident. The transported rider was reported upright and consious while waiting on the ambulance or some other vehicle to arrive. Wherever/however Steve's accident occurred, we wish him a speedy recovery.

Sorry to be slow on the update... My dad is okay, but hurting. He hit a pothole and did a mother of a face plant. He has a serious concussion and can't stand up with out wanting to puke. My mom is screening calls and managing visitors, but I'm sure he'll be on the internet soon if not already.
Please send good healing Karma his way. He'll be stir crazy and driving everyone crazy until he can get back on his bike or out in his boat.

Thank you very much for everyone's concern and well-wishes.
I was very fortunate not to have any broken bones or cuts that required stitches. I did have a concussion and some serious road rash. My face looks like dark hamburger meat, but my wounds should heal quickly.
There is an innocent little pot hole on Highway 89 just east of the I-40 overpass that took me down and at least 2 other riders that I know of.
I just returned from a follow-up examination by my family doctor. He told me that if I don't show any signs of complications from the concussion by the weekend, I can return to riding and paddling.
There is absolutely no doubt that my helmet saved me from being a vegetable. It makes me realize that the helmet may the most important piece of our paddling and cycling gear.
Again, thanks for passing good karma my way. See you on the river.

Steve, glad you survived with nothing more than what you got. Not fun to read the Sunday rag and find out about a paddling pal who gets carted off in an ambulance. Heal soon.

Definitely scary to see someone down in that intersection with so much traffic around.
Didn't realize it was you at the time, but you must have been telling the people around you that you wanted to keep going because I heard someone saying that you weren't going to be riding anywhere.
Must have gotten some air time too on the way off the bike since I didn't see one on the ground nearby.
Now that you are making a quick recovery, how is the bike?

A rider in the group I was in had a water bottle ejected from it's cage, and he almost went down with it. When I hit it I couldn't tell if it was a bump or pothole but was pretty sure that there was going to be some problems there before the day was over.
