Hurricanes = trees and new rapids... reports?

Post by Fish » Wed Sep 24, 2008 10:12 pm

Hiked Fern Gulley the other day. Some scattered wood that looked manageable in the first half mile. Wood is all gone at "Dumb and Dumber." The entire Drop Zone is completely clear except for "Damned if You Do" where three or four large trees are completely blocking the creek. A swim in The Split could be really bad... No wood at all in Big Juju down to past Rocket Slide - which is very sweet!

Lots of wood has moved around on that run, and some rocks have noticeably moved. High water marks were apparent, presumably from Gustav. I assume other creeks have had similar changes. Any other reports from hikes/runs that we should know about coming into the Fall?

Richland has the already reported changes, including Roadblock, but there are a few other changes, especially, the rapid two drops above Cindy's Hole. What used to be a slolam run on the right side now is a skechy run to river left, extremely tight, with brush, and no good route. Knucklebuster, now has a good run down the right side, with a boof/hole about 1/2 way down, verses a rocky/ big hole run down the midlle, working left. Dale

I think all the wood from Fern Gulley washed downstream and into Little Mill because it had a bunch the last time we ran it,and it was clear last year.

so maybe change name to Dammed if You Do?
You drown not by falling into a river, but by staying submerged in it. -- Paulo Coelho
