I'm organizing a weekend of canoeing and fishing for about 5 couples on the Buffalo when the fall colors are changing. Which section of the Buffalo is best for this and what time of the fall does it occur there? Any suggestions on outfitters?
Also, could use suggestions on cabins...clean, furnished, and reasonable where we can cook out....firepit, etc. THanks...

Re: Novice questions for trip on the Buffalo
During a typical year, the only part of the Buffalo that has enough water to float during fall color is the lower section and sometimes the middle section. This year, I would keep my options open since the upper Buffalo has had water in it far more often than usual.
Peak color can happen anytime from the 3rd and 4th weeks of October into the second week of November. I'm betting on the 3rd to 4th weeks of October this year. I'm also betting on a particularly beautiful fall this year due to the rain and mild summer we've had.
The entire river is magnificent. My favorite area is the upper river because of the bluffs in that section. If you're lucky enough to have water up there, I would recommend Lost Valley Canoe Rental in Ponca or Buffalo Outdoor Center, also in Ponca.
For the middle river, I recommend Buffalo River Outfitters in Silver HIll.
Wild Bill's is on the lower river. I don't know much about them but they seem to do a thriving business.
Good Luck.

Gotta plug the guys at Silver Hill Canoe. They have always been customer oriented, in contrast to some of BRO's personnel. There are also folks in Gilbert who will run shuttle for you.

Silver Hill is really special and personal. Add my name to those highly recommending them. Longtime owner "Mac McClain" has personally shuttle me, rented to me, and several times discussed his philosophy and public service ideals.
