Throw rope found on Richland

Post by RichardL » Thu Sep 18, 2008 10:45 am

On Monday the 15th, I found a throw rope tangled up in the tree below lower screw up. If it is yours I will give it back, If not I will keep it. Pm to claim

Hey Rich it is mine but I do not need it back. We were there last Sunday and a friend was using it and swam upper screw up and the bag got away. Another guy tried getting it then flipped over and swam through lower screw up. As we were scouting lower we noticed the bag was down stream in the middle of the run so I had to lean on the tree and cut it out so no one would get caught up in it if they got upside down.

Anyways it is yours for the keeping. I may even have the other half if you want it.

Here is the video of me running it. That root ball kept pulling me closer and closer.

This rope is intact aka not cut. It was tangled in the root ball on one end and strung out on the river right side of the tree. It could have been ugly had someone got over there and tangled.

Hmm maybe 2 were lost that day. Mine got caught in the root ball also with the bag floating down stream in the middle of the river. We were kind of thinking the same thing about it being there. It took almost 45 minutes to figure out a "safe" way to get the rope out. I got about 10 or 15 feet of rope and the bag cut off but the rest was left. I figured someone the next day would find the rest and be able to get it out.

That rootball and tree are going to be difficult to remove. The tree end is wedged on top of the big rock downstream, and if the end breaks off(which it will) the tree is just going to wedge against the bottom of the rock. End result, that rootball is going to be there for a while. Dale

Jay it may be I will look at it again when I get home. I did get it out without cutting it. Lets see if cooper can do the same with the tree

chainsaw, comealong, and z drag at low water would be tough, but might be doable.

Is the root ball covered with dirt?

A pick ax might break that stuff up and make it easier to work with.

might be a project for a fall afternoon. that is hike in to the site and maybe camp there for the night.

Don't forget about the one at the lip of twin devil falls. Tree is down blocking the whole drop.
