A rough draft press release: (much of what Mike posted plus some more is in press release)

The first ever Keep Arkansas Beautiful: Lee Creek Cleanup is Saturday, Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cleanup will span from Devil’s Den State Park to the Natural Dam Park. Cleanup from Devil’s Den to the old Silver Bridge on Highway 220 will be cleaned up by teams on foot, horseback, canoe and vehicles, including all-terrain vehicles. Northwest Chapter members of the Arkansas Canoe Club (ACC) will focus on the area from Devils Den to the Silver Bridge at Hwy 220. Members of the River Valley Chapter of the ACC and local landowners will clean the lower portion of the river and will have check in headquarters located at Natural Dam Park. Other chapters of the ACC will also help in the effort by attending where they feel they will be most useful. The USFS will have a check in station at the Silver Bridge area of Hwy 220. The main Headquarters for this event will be located at the Day Use Horse Parking Area at the west end of the Devils Den State park just off of Highway 220.
The purpose of this cleanup is for swimmers, whitewater paddlers, bass-anglers, nature enthusiasts, landowners and concerned citizens to take part in keeping a designated Extraordinary Resource Water (ERW) in condition for the designated uses currently listed for the river. Citizens of Northwest Arkansas, the River Valley and tourists rely on Lee Creek for many recreational uses throughout the year. This is why so many people are going to be participating in the cleanup effort to take care of one of their favorite water resources.
The Keep Arkansas Beautiful: Lee Creek Cleanup is one of many kick-off events for the Great Arkansas Cleanup and will be a great activity for adults and children. Several youth clubs, civic and business organizations, private landowners and other individuals will take part in cleanup events across state as part of the Great Arkansas Cleanup campaign between Sept.1 and Nov. 30.
Organizers for the Sept. 6 event include the Washington County Cooperative Extension Service, Washington County Environmental Affairs Office, Washington County Conservation District, Devils Den State Park, United States Forest Service and the Arkansas Canoe Club. Sponsors for the event are: the Keep Arkansas Beautiful Commission, Tyson Foods, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Waste Management, Pack Rat Outdoor Center, Uncle Sam’s Safari Outfitters, Lewis & Clark Outfitters, Southtown Sporting Goods 2, Arkansas Canoe Club, Audubon Arkansas, Arvest Bank, the Ozark Society and the Arkansas Game and Fish Stream Team.
Cleanup volunteers will be treated to many thanks, free food and refreshments, as well as some fantastic door prizes.
The cleanup schedule includes volunteer check-in and cleanup from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; lunch from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and door prize giveaways from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

I would put the flyer on here, but I cain't cause I dunno how since it is a microsoft publisher file and I am nearly computer illiterate. The flyer has almost all of the details also, but is not quite finished. It's good enough for NWA though since it just lists the Horse Day Use parking area of the park as a check in location.

Hmm......competitive advantage for NW chapter or cheating ??? you decide

I also distributed the flyers to members of NW chapter at roll sessions last night.

Hopefully the final product will be ready today

I think that to pick up glass you should use several sticky hands you find in the quarter vending machines. Either attach them to a stick or just whip em at the glass. I love those sticky hands. So many fights between me and my brother from either of us getting whipped about the head and face.

Actually, that's a great idea Jeremy. I've seen bigger versions of those things somewhere. Can you clean 'em off and use them again?

Ok, we need some Central Chapter folks to kick in here also. I know that I plan to be there. Lee Creek is important to all of us. The struggle to keep Lee Creek free flowing represents the fight to keep all our ERWs healthy and free. Can we get a carpool going for this event?

Yes, just rinse them off and let em' dry to tacky and good to go. Only real problem is you would still have to touch the glass to get it off the "hands", unless you dunked them in a 5 gal bucket of water! Eureka!

Thanks for the Sticky Hands Idea Jermdog....maybe they should have been contacted for sponsorship as well! I'm not sure there's enough vending machines in NWA for all the sticky hands we'll need.

This just in:

What a cool cleanup map that was provided by USFS.

By the way I heard that Natural Dam was a complete Disaster Zone from someone who lives in Van Buren and is on the Keep Ark. Beautiful Commission.

Just a heads up for anyone who wants to pitch in and volunteer on the cleanup effort.

Man, Hwy 220 access is a disaster too right now. Will need several trash bags there. Diapers everywhere... ugh.

Where do ya want NW Chapter? Can we help with food/drinks? We got a lot of folks who love that creek.

For the Lee Creek Cleanup I would, overall, love to have the NW chapter - or anyone for that matter - participate how ever they can.

Specifically, I think Divide and Conquer would be best especially if breaking into teams means focusing more areas like (1) Fall Creek, (2) 220 aka silver bridge, (3) the 1 mi. run in between, and (4) the ACC takeout.

That would be four really majorly big areas that could use a lot of help from the NW Chapter of ACC.

If some don't want to travel that far though, (5) cedar flats is big and trashed, and the (6) river from the park to cedar flats needs a cleaning also - I was planning on doing this, but my dang knee is gimped so crawling over river rocks isn't likely going to happen for me.

The club is prolly best suited for the fall creek/silver bridge/fun run/ acc takeout though. I say this because we can combo terrestrial and amphibious/float -drag those areas.

I'm all about giving people options, I'm also all about trying to get committments from people to lead a group for each of or any of those areas.

Tell me what you think is most appropriate and let's go from there.

Thanks for your Help and Support to ensure a great turn NW turnout!

I'd really love to show up the RV chapter even though I know we all care ! It just seems like a little bit of trash talking may translate into more trash picking up.

By the way, Did I mention that we Have some Pretty Sweet Door Prizes?

Prolly, at least 500 $ worth of gifts and gift cards from Lewis and Clark, Pack Rat, Southtown Sporting Goods, and Uncle Sams - not to mention all the other prizes provided by Stream Team and Keep Ark. Beautiful Co.

ahh yes, finally one more of the techincally challanged have figured out how to use the scanner.

Just talked to the AGFC Stream Team and have confirmed the arrival of a bunch more door prizes !

On another note, is anyone up for a wilderness float on Lee Creek the next time its up to ensure that the entire reach is, in fact, cleaned thoroughly ?????? even if other more better/fun runs are available on this unknown date ?

Contingency plan for flood stage :hammer:
Just wondering what 7 inch per day rain up until Sat will do? If we have a safe level I am thinking from the ACC take out down to Cove City or Cove City to the GL Beaver Pond. RV folks meet at Natural Dam for further instructions or just hit a section on the map and pick up all the stuff you can.
Thanks.

Since Lee Creek from the Devils Den to 220 bridge drops out pretty fast I figure it will be gone by Saturday and I can't get out of work tomorrow or Friday, so.... I'm headed down that way today to Pick up trash in the rain !

If anyone else wants to float from the park to 220 bridge today just holler 970 35 - fifty.

Should be leaving Fayetteville around noon.

Wow, the float from Devils Den to the 220 bridge was awesome yesterday ! A park ranger from the park went with me to scout the section and pick up trash and it was only her 2nd or 3rd river trip ever !

She loved it ! It was really great to see the smile on her face after running through some of the bigger rapids and wave trains !

The river from the park to fall creek was really clean, but there was still trash and we got it picked up. Fall Creek on down tho was a MESS ! More trash than I have ever seen on Lee Creek - for sure.

RV chapter you all have got your hands full with a big chore !!

Some folks have been contacting me and asking about floating potential, so if yall want some help in your conquest of cleaning the creek from 220 on down just let me know and I will send these nice folks your way.

I am just so pumped that there may actually be enough water for a true creek cleanup from none other than GREAT FOLKS in OPEN BOATS
