Strawberry river

Post by Jason O » Thu Jun 05, 2008 2:47 pm

Does anyone run a shuttle on the Strawberry? I'm looking at doing one of the two sections betwen 167 and 58. What is a good level on the Poughkeepsie gauge to float? Thanks for any help.

The gage is at 2.5 now. I have done it at 2 feet and it was low but floatable. The water quality was great and it was a very nice trip. Unfortunatley I don't know of anyone who does shuttles.

No one shuttles up there. Pretty rural area...but an awesome creek. You won't encounter too much traffic.

The nature conservancy has bought some land up there.

This is really exciting for a creek that get little attention outside of locals. Enjoy.

I took a group up for a tour of the Nature Conservancy's demonstration ranch a few years ago. It is a beautiful place. I would like to float the river again myself. If we get several others to go, we can run our own shuttle.

I would be up for that. It would have to be during the week for me to go though. Only get one weekend off a month and I like to spend that with my kids.

I'm headed for the San Juan this week. If we still have water when I get back, I'll try to put together a midweek trip.

Just got back from the San Juan and looks like the Strawberry is on the rise! I'm thinking a trip this week is in order. Will keep you posted.

What is it like? Rapids? scenery? Might be interested if nothing else comes up for Saturday. Long pools?

It didn't get quite enough rain back when this was posted, so I failed to follow up on your questions at the time, but here for future reference:

What is it like?
Rapids? A few, at least one really fun one, a hair easier than Cadron.
scenery? Yes. No big bluffs, but pretty pastoral stream, great water quality, tree lined banks, etc.
Long pools? Some - but I don't really remember them, so they must not be too bad.
Trash: Get a little every time you go!
