Can't say fo sho - but I think BooZoo dun passed. Saw him live down at the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Fesival a few years back. Man that guy could play. Had about a dozen accordions sittin up there, each one had a name.

I remember he said he had some new songs that year, but he wasn't gonna play none of em at de festival that year cause he was afraid somebody might steal em out from under him before he got de copyright on em. Funny guy.

Been all over that country down there just running the roads and hitting hole in the wall restaurants and bars. Good times, my friend. Les Bon Temps...

Edit: Boozoo is no longer with us. But the "Cajun Cowboy's" music will live on forever...

Hey Roman, no kidding, when are the Pelican Paddlers planning another outing? I don't have a sea kayak, just a 3' wide rec kayak, but if they're not racing I could probably keep them in sight. Maybe some others might be interested and I know I'd like to catch up with the road cyclists while I'm there. If anyone else is interested, there's a pretty nice state park with cabins and a campground a couple of miles out of town.

My opinion, BooZoo is "The Man" when it comes to real down south swamp music!

He has a song about "what you gonna do when old Boozoo is gone" one of my favorites. I guess now we will find out.

I know Clifton Chiener is often called "King of the Bayou" but Boozoo either tied him or ran a close second.

Talking about gas station feasts and festivals, I was passing through Opelousas one day and got a pretty strong urge for some real boudain. So I pulled into a truck stop there and they just so happened to have some handy. What made the day was the Zydeco band (don't remember who it was) that had just set up in the parking lot there jammin out. Boudain and Zydeco. Dat's what I'm talking about.

Can't tell you how many times I've done that type of thing (grew up in Louisiana)

Used to love the impromptu catfish fry's and crawfish boils that would pop up all the time beneath big shade trees at different "crossroads" all over the countyside in those parts. If I didn't have to work next week I'd be headed that way now. Getting real hungry talking about all this.

Most start off at Sams Throne or Horseshoe Canyon Ranch. If your bold and into bouldering you can sneak into Seven Hollows Loop trail of Petit Jean, during a weekday. But if you get caught back there with crash pads get ready to pay.

Arkansas is soooo full of Magnificent Bluffs, just start looking and you will find.

And if you're looking more into a little mountaineering -- drop me a line -- spend a lot of time climbing in Pacific NW, Mexico and such. Have a couple of nice trips in the works -- one may be particularly appealing -- is the Bailey Traverse of the Olympics or Ptarmingan Traverse of the Cascades planned for next July/August. If you're interested in joining our party I bet I can make room for ya'.

We're actually doing a paddle and camping thing this weekend. I'm not paddling, because of my shoulder. I may bring my creek boat out to the river tomorrow and mess around though.

I'm in a 10ft long 29" wide rec boat right now and I keep up pretty well. I'm doing a couple web sites for a local shop in exchange for a 14ft Perception Carolina and a Werner Cyprus right now. I should have charged them enough to get a GPS too. lol



Thanks for the offer Tris...at this point I think I really just want to try some small cliffs and stuff for starters. I can remember camping in state parks up there and seeing cliffs with bolts all over. That may be more my speed. :)

Man, I have really been wanting to get into climbing for the past 2 years or so. I just never have taken the time to do so. Now that I'm in LA it makes it even more of a challenge to learn. And yes, I know, before anyone says anything, I would have to climb as Ryan and not as Dangerboy. Because there is definitely no room in climbing for the types of risks that Dangerboy likes to take, hehehehehe.

If you like bouldering you might try Horse Pens 40. It is located on this side of Birmingham,Alabama. I don't think it is as far from you as it sounds. If you are wanting to climb in Arkansas,Horseshoe Canyon is a great plaace to learn sport climbing. They have bolted routes that are easy enough to solo. Climbs that easy will allow you to "learn the ropes" with out having to concentrate on a difficult climb. That alone will help you progress faster. Horseshoe Canyon has cabins,disc golf and horse back riding.

Whitewater - Rockclimbing - Mountain climbing - you're just torturing yourself man!

Hey Cowper...I joined a gym with a climbing wall today. It's a start! I'm more interested in mountaineering (another fine Louisiana past time), but some climbing ability sure wouldn't hurt. I'm hoping to do a guided climb of Mt. Rainier next year.
