I need some opinons on a Bliss-Stik SCUD (Pictures)
I found a Bliss-Stik agent selling some demo boats. He has a SCUD for $500 (normal price is $850). Anyone have any experience paddling one of these? Would it be a good first boat? Thanks for the feedback.

Hopefully the Capt. or so one else will chime in here with some 1st hand experience -- all I can tell you is that I've heard nothing but good -- a strong performer, forgiving and easy to paddle. Good first baot if you're playful and not looking for some long marathon flat water boating -- for this is a boat that'll be looking to ride moving water and play some waves. And the price and condition look to be very good. If you don't want it -- you might even put me in touch with the boat.

Alrighty thanks...I basically want it for river running, minor creeking, and a bit of play...I'm pretty sure it will do all of that. Their web site says "There ain’t nothing you can’t bomb with a SCUD!!!!!" and shows a guy going off a waterfall. lol The agent said "Very stable and still plays well. Blunts, 360's and whatnot. Even an occasional loop". I guess that about covers everything. I just wish it was lime green.

Sub-standard boat design.
If you are into Bliss-Stick get a Mystic. It is a much better design for down river. I paddled the Scud on Gore Canyon once and hated it. It is like a potato (too short for a creek boat and too much volume for a play boat).
Go out and take advantage of retailers. Demo as many as possible. Find something with good outfitting that lets you sit comfortably for long periods of time. There is nothing worse than numb feet.
Peace - Go Kayaking!

PS - Pack Rat is selling some brand spanking new boats for half off. Sweet Deal!!!

I ordered a Mystic for my first demo boat. I plan to pickup a SCUD from the shipment coming to the states next month though. As far as the agent thing, I guess it was a combination of things. First, they didn't have an agent in Louisiana and wanted to get coverage in this area. Second, I scoped out a couple whitewater runs down here and have a plan to bring people there for whitewater trips and let them demo boats. Also, I have a background in web design and advertising to help me get the word out.

Check out my comments on the SCUD under the topic "SCUD = FUN". I have a Mystic, too, and paddle it if I'm expecting a lot of pools on a run. It's a little less fun than the SCUD, but a whole lot faster.

Toro Bayou and Kisatchie Bayou are both about 100 miles north of me...basically east and west of Leesville. Kisatchie has class I/II and one of the 3 waterfalls in Louisiana. Odum falls in is in the same area, but I haven't gotten to check it out yet. Toro Bayou is supposed to be Class I in the Spring, but I actually think it will be class II at a mid-level during the Winter. There is also a spot on the Sabine River called the Ghost Rapids. It's supposed to be class III waves created for the first couple of hours after the hydro plant puts the generators online. Anyway, I figure they'll be good places for me to get in some paddling and demo boats, between trips to Texas and Arkansas.Arthur Bowie wrote:I guess my info on Lake Charles is out of date.
