Post by boofmaster » Thu Dec 19, 2019 1:50 pm

There will be an American Canoe Association (ACA) Level 4 Whitewater Canoe Instructor Certification opportunity this Spring. This course will be held on the Cossatot River in Arkansas and will consist of two 3 day weekends. March 13-15 (Instructor Development Workshop). April 10-12th (Instructor Certification Exam)
The course is listed as a 40 hour course to become an ACA Instructor. Prior to the course each candidate will receive 3-4 teaching topics. During the first weekend (IDW) is where the new instructor candidates learn from current instructors. During this time candidates will observe the ACA teaching methods and what is expected of them. Candidates will then have a few weeks prior to the Instructor Certification weekend (ICE) to prepare and ask questions associated with their assignments. During the ICE, candidates will teach their assigned topics and will be given 2-3 impromptu topics as well as critique other instructor candidates. At the end of this weekend each instructor candidate will be evaluated as to what level of certification they will receive.
The cost of the course if $500.00 per person based on a minimum of 10 people. the ACC will reimburse half of this cost for ACC members interested in getting certified and who commit to teach during our annual paddling schools. Some ACC chapters also reimburse a portion of this expense.
