Mulberry River Society's "Make a Splash" Earth Day Celebration
River-focused Organizations Announce Dedication Ceremonies
OZARK, AR Governor Asa Hutchinson and US Senator John Boozman to headline as speakers for the"Mulberry River Celebration" Dedication and Award Ceremonies(4-20-18) in the heart of the Ozark National Forest to honor the Mulberry River Society and to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act on the Banks of the Mulberry River (A nationally designated Wild and Scenic River).
The Mulberry River Society (MRS), Governor Hutchinson, Senator Boozman, Smokey Bear, US Forest Service, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Arkansas Canoe Club, and other local, state and federal officials will be joining together to “Make a Splash”, as they celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Wild and Scenic Rivers Act and Earth Day during an afternoon of planned festivities along the Mulberry River. The celebration will officially dedicate the newly restored High Bank and Indian Creek access points on the nationally designated Wild and Scenic Mulberry River, located in Franklin, Johnson, and Crawford Counties, Arkansas.
Adding to the celebration, the USFS has nominated MRS for a national volunteer service award to recognize their dedicated work on the High Bank and Indian Creek projects. The restoration of these access points is the result of a collaborative effort between MRS volunteers, the USFS, AGFC, and ACC. Arkansas Governor and US Senator David Pryor will be honored and presented with a MRS Lifetime Achievement Award for his service to the state and vision for protection and preservation of the Mulberry River.
The event headquarters will be at the Byrds Adventure Center on Hwy 215 and guided tours of the High Bank and Indian Creek River Access Landings, Educational Booths and The Commemorative Floatilla will begin at noon. Re: Earth Day
We still need some volunteers for safety boats to paddle from Whoop and Holler to Bryd's. We are meeting at Whoop at 11:00 with departure at 12:00.
We also need some volunteers to man an educational booth at Byrd's.
Please let Dennis or Karen Buccella know if you would like to help. 479-221-0989
