FYI Buffalo River Clabber Creek Shoal

Post by R_Corter » Wed Jun 01, 2016 1:55 pm

We put in Saturday morning right behind a large group. From what they told us they had a lot of trouble on Clabber Shoal and even lost a boat. Two of the supposedly backed out of trip all together and walked back. We had 4 adults and a 5 year old with us (2 canoes and small Jon boat). I found a back door down Clabber Creek Shoal right at the mouth of the creek & to the right. Perfect little channel at River level 7.25 Harriet Gauge. We did have to walk the boats down but it was pretty simple and completely bypassed the Shoal! I do believe you could also portage here and carry you canoe and equipment down and a lower river level if you didn't want to run the shoal.

there are some nasty hay stacks when the river is up, stay to the left to stay out of them, fun shoal!! gets you ready for the lower buffalo right off the bat, what a gorgeous trip,
