Cadron Access?

Post by bmartin » Wed Apr 02, 2014 1:35 pm

I have been slinging hammers and cutting wood a lot the past two years with my free time and have kind of fallen out of the paddling community. Hello Again!

I wanted to know if someone could update me on Cadron access. I know access there has seemed to have changed as often as the lunar cycle over the past few years. I went to the ACC web page link with Cadron Info and saw below and hoping there is a more optimistic path to the creek.

Thanks, -Brad

As of November 2010, we no longer have access to Cadron Creek via the Weidower property off of Cadron Lane. The Weidower's were wonderful to grant us access for the 2009-2010 boating season, but issues with gas companies using the same road has made continued access too problematic. At the gas company's insistence, the gate to the creek is now locked.

Note that the Arkansas Canoe Club is continuing to work towards establishing a permanent PUBLIC access upstream of Hwy 65 on Cadron Creek. We will of course notify the paddling community as soon as we have more news to report.

You can put in at the bridge on Pinnacle Road which means a short hike-in due to the locked gate. Rules are: Do not block gate which will be obvious. Best access is to turn right at bottom of old road and turn right. Second and best rule is pick up any trash you might see there and while on the creek.

I've had good luck with using Cadron Creek Outfitters, although my recent experiences with Sarah's wave is that it has been somewhat washed out at both a good medium level (3-4.5) and at higher levels (5+). I seem to recall it being taller and more retentive even down to 3 ft when I first started paddling it. I'm wondering if one of the big floods here in the past year or two has altered that feature. Currently, I don't find it worth the extra time to put in at CCO and have been using the Pinnacle Springs access.

Think that feature was altered some. High flows have most likely removed those alterations.

Could be wrong but streams do change with time. Illinois Bayou had some noticeable changes in the last few months.
