Illinois Bayou 6/4

Post by djrottman » Fri Jun 03, 2016 5:52 pm

Illinois Bayou (class II) paddle Saturday 6/4, meet at 11 a.m. at the Hwy 27 bridge north of Hector (1st crossing point of Illinois Bayou) . Plan is to do Snow Creek down to this point. It is a total of approx. 7 miles. If the level for Snow Creek isn't right, we'll run the "bridge to bridge" run, approx. 5 miles.

Do you know how many paddlers plan to show up?

We have ride on top kayaks, are they appropriate for this section of river? Never been on the Illinois Bayou before.

Thank you,
Scott

Scott,

That's your call. It is class II rated, but the level is going to be a bit on the higher side and could be more than I would do in a sit on top. If you'll ask that on the facebook page, either Arkansas Whitewater Coalition or the Arkansas Canoe Club pages where its posted, more people will see it and respond. I'm not as seasoned as many of those people.

I would NOT. Unless you are VERY good with your SOT. More than one spot, with Snow creek section, that going around is imperative.
You sure this is on the right channel?

I hope you guys had a great day. I wanted to come but had commitments. And since I'm too lazy to start a new post, would anybody be interested in paddling Clear Creek tomorrow from Chester to Mountainburg? If it drops out, maybe the upper Frog from Mountainburg to the Grotto will still be up.

Curtis,

We are doing something tomorrow, but won't get a start until 1ish at best. 7 bridges, ribbit, or Mulberry.

I say, and I intend it emphatically, let the river be.

Thanks, Kristian. That puts me a little late getting home so I'll pass. Thanks for the invite!
