Sunday 11/22/15, Cadron pickup and paddle

Post by Cowper » Sat Nov 21, 2015 8:20 am

It's been awhile since we officially picked up ACC's adopted stretch of Hwy 65, so join us if you can.

We will meet at about 11:15 under the highway 65 bridge. By 12:30, we will quit and go make the short float from Pinnacle Springs to 65.

For those who can't make the earlier time, no worries, just show up by 12:30 and join the float!

Just wanted to thank everyone for all the help! I had a blast despite looking like a drowned rat for at least half the float! Can't thank you guys enough for making my first trip out so much fun!

OK, I'm going to be lazy and repeat some of what I've already said on FB, for those who aren't on FB:

"Today, about 15 (???) folks showed up early enough to help with cleaning the ACC's adopted mile of Highway 65. Thirteen (13) bags of trash and one tire collected from the highway, another bag, a paddle, a tire, and another 1/2 canoe pulled off the river (I say "another" because we got the first half on the 20th). Plus some fun surfing! I'm including this stretch of Cadron as one of our success stories; we got really serious about cleaning it in 2012. We used to pull tires out, sometimes more than a dozen per trip, and fill our boats with trash. Today one boat filled one bag, and even that required jumping out of the boat and searching in debris piles from recent flooding. Even there, only scattered trash items could be found, no real concentrations like we've seen in the past."

Level was 2.9', which provided easy passage over all the shoals, and some decent surfing in a few places.

I think it was Larry Crane that counted 21 boats overall. Thank you Jeff Gannon for setting the original time and posting on the FB page! If this one wins the drawing, I'll split it with you.
