Dragover 11/8

Post by Lupe » Sat Nov 07, 2015 2:00 pm

A few of us are going to do the Dragover section on the Ouachita River on Sunday meeting at 10am. We're going to be moving slow down the river, but folks are welcome to join us and stay with us as long or as little as you want. Easy class I, II short (3 mile) stretch. Shuttle can easily be walked (<1 mile) if we don't move any cars to the take out in advance.

Thanks for fishing me out...Twice!
No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it is not the same river and he is not the same man.

Hey Heather,

It's been about a year since I floated over there at Dragover and I wondered what kind of shape you found the take-out in. Last time I was there the road was increasingly rutted and the turn around at the river was pretty muddy. I just wondered if the county had done any maintenance on it this Summer.

Best Regards
Jim

Hi Jim,

Unfortunately, no, it sure didn't look like any road maintenance had been done. There's still a big mud puddle at the take out turn around although plenty of dry ground around it to park and maneuver. Overall the ground coming up from the river and in the parking area was less muddy than in the past, but that's just an artifact of the long dry summer and the ground's not over saturated yet. The actual drive in still has a number of ruts and mounds etc. We had all regular/low clearance cars stay at the put in and used just trucks/jeeps to haul boats back out.

It was a beautiful day and all together I believe we had 15 folks out on the river enjoying a great sunny fall day.
