I'm planning on canoeing War Eagle Creek this Thursday from highway 412 to Withrow Springs Park. Currently the creek is at 2.97 and falling slowing. I'm guessing it will be 2.0-2.5 by the time I go.
Does anybody have any info on this run or have ran it recently?
Does anybody know if any of the rental services in this area are still running?
War Eagle Creek
Re: War Eagle Creek
I floated this section june 24 at that time there was a tree across the river just after the 2nd rapid from put in at 412. Portage is either a high rocky bank or big messy driftwood area. Levels under 2.5 will be slow and you may hit a few shallow areas (with a kayak). I wouldn't take a canoe at these levels.

Re: War Eagle Creek
I'm planning on canoeing. I read an article called Creek-tiquing War Eagle Creek. He did it in a canoe at 2.5 He said they dragged a few times and had to get out a couple times but it didn't sound to bad.
do you think at that level will I be dragging alot?
It's 4.5 Miles. I was thinking 3 hours tops, does that seem accurate?
I live in fayetteville, a lot of the local creeks are just below the runnable range.
Have any recommendations on another creek I should run?

Call Withrow springs state park and they can tell you how it's running and give an estimate of time.
Re: War Eagle Creek
All of my experience in this section has been in a kayak so I may not be the best advice for what a canoe can do. At 2.5 it is still a decent float. The lowest I've gone is 2 and in a kayak you will have to jump out a couple of times due to low water. However, the eagles rapids are just gravel and easy to portage.

Re: War Eagle Creek
Just wanted to give an update.
I canoed War Eagle Creek Yesterday from hwy 412 to hwy 23, the water level was 2.38.
Lets just say the scenery is stellar, I would recommend anybody who hasn't been and lives close by the check it out.
Even at this level, I only had to get out 3-4 times to briefly pull the canoe, and some of that was picking the wrong line or moving around a log over the river. It took under 2.5 hours to completely and that is with stopping several times and swimming or admiring the massive bluffs.
The water is nice, i thought it was a fairly active stream with tight turns and small rapids, but I wasn't going for the whitewater just the view.
