Hey folks,
We're again trying to rally support for a major clean up on the Fourche. The tricky part is 1) this is not a good time of year for paddlers to plan these clean up events! There's lots of paddling related stuff happening this weekend and surrounding weekends, so we recognize that it's going to be hard to get a big turnout; 2) to really make a Fourche clean up a success, we need relatively low water levels on the Fourche. An April date is probably not stacking the odds in our favor for a good water level (ideally <6 feet on the University gauge is what we're hoping for).
Nonetheless, despite the odds, we're going to see what pans out on 4/25. If it turns out that you can break free from other commitments and join us, that would be awesome.
You can read about the details for the event here:
https://www.facebook.com/events/353275674874849/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
You can read more about various trash gathering exploits by various members of the ACC via this Facebook page here (ACC BOATR group):
https://www.facebook.com/groups/684199948368763/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And the way I understand this works is that I believe that it doesn't matter if you are on Facebook or not, you can still read the details by visiting these pages. (If it turns out that's not true, please let me know!)
As per the instructions on the event page, we want folks to meet 8am at Advanced Transmission on University in the parking area closest to the creek. We encourage you to bring kayaks or canoes to get to the sites we'll be working, but most trash collection will be done via land once you are to the key sites. If you can't bring a boat, no worries - come anyway and you can hike to key sites and/or we can ferry land volunteers via jon boats to key sites. Everything we'll be working on is just about 1/4 mile from University, so not far at all. Finally, if anyone has SMALL jon boats to bring for the day, it would be a HUGE help, both to let us ferry volunteers across the creek, as well as to help us remove bags from the creek back to University for later pick up. Just note that there isn't a formal boat ramp at University so you'll need a boat that a team of guys/gals can lift and carry a few feet to the water.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Cheers,
Heather aka Lupe

Make sure to also wear long pants, long sleeves, and sturdy shoes. Possible poison ivy around the trash sites.

Re: 4/25 Fourche Creek Trash Bash
10pm update: In all likelihood the big trash piles we have been yearning to tackle will be underwater on 4/25. But if you have a boat and are willing to come out, we have a plan B. I'll be at Advanced Transmission as planned at 8am but will also post an update as soon as possible in the morning. If we decide we cannot safely disembark from University, we will head down to Interstate Park where we will work our way upstream into the Fourche Bottoms. At the very least we will show you a really neat part of the creek, and at the very most we'll be able to reach another large trash area that hopefully will not be underwater. Same rules apply: boots and long pants strongly recommended despite expected warm temps. Bring your gloves and an adventurous spirit.

6:45am update: same plan. Meet at Advanced Transmission at 8am. We will assess if we can still get some of our original target, but if not we'll then caravan together to Interstate Park. I will update here if we ultimately decide to move base of operations. It's going to be a beautiful day for an adventure...want to come spend it with us?
