I have the antidote. You are just under the influence of kayak poison. Please hold on for dear life!-M-

Question: Will my open-boater friends still paddle with me, or will I be shunned?

Of course it still isn't to late to repent. They make every bit as nice of a flower pot for the yard as retired bathroom fixtures. Marigolds do well in them I hear. And those Doctor Doolittle push-me-pull-you paddles can be sawn in half, grips added to make two real paddles.
PS- Enjoy your new get. Wish I had had such toys available when I was young enough to play with them. Don't sell the canoe though.

I'll paddle with you Terry! In my kayak. Would not call myself a kayaker as much as an open-boater who kayaks when not in a raft.

Little did I know that when I retired from working for "the system", I would also be retiring from WW canoeing. The knee pain was just too much to bare. Sold all four of my WW canoes because it was too difficult to look at them. I got pretty down about the whole thing. I actually had some kayaks (mainly for my kids & grandkids use) including a Savage Skreem creeker. I took it on our trip this month to the Smokies and paddled the Lower Tellico (Turkey Creek to the ranger station turn-off). There were 3 or 4 class III drops similar to Richland, and I actually had a blast running them. I cannot tell you how much that helped my disposition. So...I checked out NOC to see what kind of used "new school" creek boats they had. They had this like new 2014 Burn for six honeys, so I grabbed it.
So Davidbob...pre-retirement Terry is gone, and post-retirement Terry is alive and well. Hope to see you next weekend!

But there are other, better, alternatives to a (spits on the ground) maggot boat: rafts; bowling; suicide ...

Tater,
Since the GC accident, I do not do much hard shell kayaking. But when I did that Skreem was my favorite creek boat ever. And over the years I purchased most of them. Super Hero was another good one as well.
So, I am back in a canoe but mostly setting on the seat just cruising or rowing the JPW mini cat. But, that Skreem is a classic creeker that gets the job done as well as anything else I tried and they do not make em any more.
Good luck with your new toys no matter how they float
dave
