Buffalo Trashional River

Post by sig » Sun Mar 22, 2015 3:31 pm

Fourteen of us floated the Buffalo yesterday from Carver to Woolum (six hour float, 1.5 hour round trip shuttle) and managed to make good time even while removing six tires plus other trash (a diaper, plastic ice bags, chunks of buckets, aluminum cans (some with pop-tops), etc).

Many thanks to Luke for rowing the tires out plus thanks to Jason Robinson for letting us know he spotted tires on this stretch last spring.

I think that stretch of river was in worse shape than I expected it to be. We had a lot of miles to cover and passed up lots of small trash and at least four more tires that needed a shovel to remove them. I'd suggest splitting the section in half and using the Mt Hershey access. This part of the river allows motor boats too so that may be a wise technique to haul trash out.
